hii occa martianbat where they’re so pathetically in love with each other but neither of them will make the first move because they’re both convinced the other doesn’t feel the same way and rejection would geninely destroy them 😭 meanwhile everyone else is watching this like it’s some tragic 19th century forbidden love play and they’re so tired of their nonsense bcs why are they both this obliviousand then the moment they finally get together they becme so sweet it’s actually disgusting like everyone spent years suffering through the pining just to get hit with the most nauseatingly affectionate couple imaginable
"Why not tell him?" Clark asks, voice nothing more than a murmur. Bruce glares at him anyway, before his gaze—like it always does—is pulled back to J'onn.
The Martian floats outside of the airlock, staring in the direction of his home planet. He will be there for seventeen more hours, by Clark's watch. And forty-three minutes.
"Look at him," Bruce sighs, something wistful beneath the sympathy in his tone. "He's grieving his wife, Clark. His daughter. His entire planet. I cannot hope to compare to that love he holds for them. And I will not ruin one of my best friendships for a silly crush."
"I do not think you can continue to dismiss it to us as a mere crush." Diana is kind, if blunt. "Not when it has been ten years, friend."
"One would think that after ten years you would have realised I do not wish to speak of it any longer."
"We realised," Clark drawls, and puts a hand on his shoulder. "But you're our friend too."
"And we do not care to see you hurt."
"You're hurting yourself," Diana buts in. "Torturing yourself. Tell him, Bruce. At the very least then you will end this hopeless pining."
"To tell him would be to hurt him. And that is not a price I will pay for my own comfort."
Clark slumps in his chair, sharing a look with Di. Bruce really is hopeless.
And, as he reaches out his hearing, all the way to the Martian floating in outer space, he sighs again. For so is J'onn.
"You would like him, I think, my dear. You would also call me a fool for wasting away after a man that wants nothing but my friendship. ....I simply cannot help it. Bruce is the finest specimen of man I have encountered; it was impossible not to fall for him.
