Fandom becoming less taboo to be a part of has caused new and original stories to not feel as satisfying, mostly because a lot of people can't differentiate between the story given and the story that could have been.

A big chunk of people engage in fandom, find fanartists and fanfic writers and people sharing random headcanons and AUs, make up their own version of the story in their head, and then when the story doesn't end up being this very specific and personally tailored concept, they don't like it. It has started to become expected the media to be EXACTLY up for your standards for you to enjoy it. And oh, when your headcanon gets disproved, or the side character you've convinced yourself is who the story should be about doesn't get enough attention, suddenly the writing is trash and there's too much focus and JESSICA, BUT YOU LIKE CINDY MORE, WHY DON'T WE KNOW MORE ABOUT CINDY, NO ONE EVER LIKES JESSICA BUT THE WRITERS KEEP TRYING TO MAKE HER SYMPATHETIC AND INTERESTING!

Would I have enjoyed Hazbin more if Charlie was less annoying and the Vees and Angel were more important? Hell yes, I'm still praying for a Vees spin off show! Do I wish The Amazing Digital Circus focused more on the existential dread and not scheming over the "oh, we are just copies of the real people! Damn, there's no way out, let's have a tea party!" Yes.

You are allowed to like a piece of media and have problems with it and think "but I would have done it better!" Pick up your media of choice and do it. Rewrite the ending and make it into a comic. Write a 100k word AU where your favourite side character is the focus.

Yes, this is mostly about The Amazing Digital Circus, specifically Jax. Who could have guessed that the character based on the creator ends up being important! Unheard of! You don't like Jax being trans or how it was handled? Welp, sucks to suck, write it yourself then, or at least find a person who has written it in a way you deem better.

See, this caught my interest on my latest rewatch of the show. Why would Caine, a sophisticated and highly advanced AI (Kinger’s words, not mine) gravitate towards a bead maze when talking about a “big puzzle he needs to solve”? Bead mazes aren’t exactly known for their complexity. And there IS an almost finished Rubik’s cube on his desk in the previous shot. So…why the bead maze?

But when I looked up what this kind of toy is even called, I stumbled upon this interesting information on Wikipedia.

I like the dynamic because they mightve at some point known who he was. Who he could be if he wasn't so scared of letting anyone help him. of admitting he was wrong. They're so empathetic at heart. They feel like they're responsible for everyone, and they're the one who veers people in the right or wrong direction. They love who he is at his core. They haven't seen that in forever. He's so unbearable now. They know it's because he's so scared.

He needs everyone to like him or he'll die. possibly literally. He needs their approval more than he needs air. They're so nice. What is he saying, they're... mean! They... don't like anything he does for them. They yell at him so often. Why does it feel like an impermeable truth that they're nice? Why does it feel like... he already knows that from experience? Why... Why are they forgiving him? Isn't this only hurting them? Why are they...

And also the toxic dynamic can be hot but just make sure to remember to remind yourself that this is fiction you are engaging in for fun and that a dynamic like that in real life should be treated with a lot more concern and urgency.
