In penance she became a Proper Abiding legal court mage and transitioned and they didn’t see each other for like 15 years until after that. Until the crown needs Masha’s expertise for a quest. It’s customary to tell a secret (take confession) relatively often to a Keeper of Keys and Masha keeps doing it to Margaux who is waiting for her to realize They Know Each Other. But doesn’t want to say anything first bc it was a VERY BAD breakup. Anyway they have to navigate being Divorced while also dealing with magic bullshit and Margaux is probably still going to be a royal bastard child or something because that’s really fun. And all this is happening on a continent in an empire that’s BARELY relevant to the daggerheart game I’m gonna run for me friends aside from it’s influence on noble politics and fashion.

its just so obviously different when someone is engaging in a convo about a female character because it's the polite thing to do and not because they have any investment in it. and normally that would be fine except this is something you have to deal with literally everywhere you go, no matter who the other people you're conversing with are. and you can feel the switch in interest so potently when women are the focus of the conversation versus men.
