So, in terrible news, Trump's trying to pull some strings to pass this massive internet censorship bill, featuring all the kinds of internet censorship we're terrified of, including mandatory ID for accessing basically any website, specifically to crush state regulation of AI, because apparently this man will always see the moral bottom of the barrel and start digging.

The bastards in the House PASSED IT this morning.

Mercifully, it still needs to pass the Senate. GET ON YOUR SENATORS.

I’m calling to request that Senator ______ do everything in his power to block and vote NO on H.R.7757, the Kids Online Safety Act, the No Fakes act, the KIDS act, the KOSPA, and the age verification mandates being pushed by Donald Trump. These bills together would result in government regulations of protected speech for both adults and children. The act would force social media platforms to restrict lawful speech, allow the government to dictate and control online communications, and require age verification mandates.

Age verification mandates would require users to disclose personal information before accessing lawful speech online— hugely invading privacy and opening the door to people’s personal data being stolen, and completely eliminating the safety of anonymity for everyone online.

Please block these bills and protect the American citizens’ right to free speech and anonymity online.

These bills would require all internet users to give up their legal identities to every website they use to prove their non-minor status, and force government regulations and oversight on all communications on social media platforms, destroying any ability for people to exercise their right to free speech. And the government dictating and controlling online communications for people who are forced to give up their identities to every data mining platform would be catastrophic for everyone involved.

With Tumblr starting to roll out age verification, it feels like a good time to bring this up.

I went to my app store and turned off automatic updates back when the staff tried to roll out their reblogs bullshit last month or whenever that was. The age verification is only in the UK and Brazil for now, but it'll probably spread.

Oh wow yeah this is the new version of this scam!

Reminder/Notice:

Tumblr does not use outlook.com as their email provider.

Tumblr will e-mail you from their own email that ends in tumblr.com if there are ever issues with your account for whatever reason.

Staff will never tell someone to message you, to then tell you to message them, staff, via an email, discord, or via some other method.

Staff will not do this. Ever.

Here are two examples of Tumblr's official emails.

If your account was reported, you will always get a email from Tumblr on the account you're linked to. They will not just ban, suspend, terminate, ect you, without letting you know. Anyone saying otherwise is lying to you. It's all in your email unless you turned notifications off. Check your junkmail if you didn't get anything.

If there's issues, or you report an account, you'll get emails from [email protected]. Example:

When you get an email saying you have an ask or a message, or you're signed up for their newsletter, you get a email from [email protected].

This is from tumblr dot com the website.

That is how you know it's real.

Again, Tumblr does not use outlook, gmail, hotmail, discord, or anything else. If you get a ask, message, or anything telling you to contact 'staff' at an address/website/platform, that is 100% a scam.

So if you live in the UK, I'm pretty sure you're all aware of the Children's wellbeing and schools bill

If not, there were some changes to it that, if passed, would include

Social media bans for under 16s here in the UK (similar to the one in Australia)

Age verification to download VPNs

And mandatory screenings for all devices

Now, just like with the online safety act here in the UK, this is all under the guise of "protecting kids", which is good intentioned (of course kids shouldn't be exposed to inappropriate content)

But doing stuff like age/ID verification is INCREDIBLY dangerous, and would potentially put people's private information at risk!

So...what can we do?

Now, you're probably reading this and thinking

"oh! But the government will just ignore it like with other petitions!"

I still encourage y'all to sign anyways! Even if it doesn't end up doing anything, it'll still send a message nonetheless, that we WON'T accept censorship under the guise of "protecting kids"
