kinda want dicks life to kinda blow up when people end up finding out hes been sleeping with tim on and off for y e a r s. lots of side eyeing about when it started and who all he cheated on and wtf dick thats your little brother?? and tim is just like. hello yes hi stop giving dick all the credit and acting like he groomed me??

I totally missed WIP Wednesday (thanks for the tag btw, @books2beach 🩷) because I was so busy with Thanksgiving prep, but I still wanted to share something, and this snippet is a little extra-special because it's a sneak peek at the holiday fic I'll be posting next week! This fic is set within my childhood friends AU, in between chapters 8 and 9 of It's Nice To Have A Friend.

“I thought your fireplace reading session was missing a warm drink,” Arthur says, taking a seat on the couch next to Alex and offering him one of the two mugs he’s holding. “How do you feel about homemade hot chocolate?” Alex’s eyes light up and he accepts the mug eagerly, inhaling the fragrant steam for a moment before taking a sip. “Holy shit,” he mumbles into the mug. “I think this might actually be better than coffee.” Arthur laughs, taking a drink from his own mug. “High praise,” he teases. “Seriously, what the hell did you put in here? It’s amazing,” Alex insists, barely removing his face from his mug long enough to get the words out. Arthur settles back into the sofa cushions, smiling. “Old Fox family secret,” he says. “I’ll have to teach it to you sometime. Someone will need to carry on the tradition, after all, and I’m afraid none of my children are particularly culinary-inclined.”

This fic is written from Arthur's POV (which was new for me!) and this snippet is fairly innocent, but I would suggest perhaps reading the actual fic within arm's reach of a box of tissues? idk, I've cried over it a couple times, at least 😅

(To be honest, calling it a holiday fic feels a bit misleading because it's not technically about the holidays, but it is set during the holidays so I'm counting it as a holiday fic anyway 😅)

dick goes “whatre u doing” super seriously halfway and immediately confronts it. tim admits it and dick lectures him.

avoids dick until his mortification blows over and some of his dignity recovers. but now its on dicks mind and hes mad at himself for not realizing sooner, has to confront the fact hes actually attracted to tim, and casually blames himself.

cant seem to think of the in between but know it would lead to sloppy romantic sex somehow.

in my heart i feel that dick would rather sweep it under the rug and hope it goes away as opposed to confronting tims crush head on, but i will get into this space with you anyway cause i do love the idea of dick always having just ignored tims feelings for him cause he thought "oh its a crush" "he'll grow out of it" "its just hero worship" and then with tim being more upfront about it hes finally like "okay now its gotta stop. now its impacting me" lmao

and i loooooove when dick shuts tim down (mostly cause of moral and guilt reasons, but this works too) and then has to sit with the fact that he /could/ have tim. if he just /says/ something. /does/ something. tims right there! tim is so beyond into it!! hes so in love with dick!! dick is standing in his own way!!! get over yourself and fuck your little brother!!! he'll love it!!!

“Hold still a second,” Dick says, taking Tim’s face in his hands to smooth his fringe out of his eyes and wipe away the little smudge of whatever away, frowning a little in concentration as he does.

He's so focused he doesn’t notice the way Tim’s watching him, this odd sort of fondness in his eyes, soft curve to his lips, until Dick’s done. Realizes what he’s done, is doing as he catches Tim’s gaze with Tim’s face cradled in his hands on the street in front of an old, tired, greasy-spoon diner, the way he might have when they were both younger and far stupider.

(Something in his chest aches at the thought of it, heavy with the warmth of nostalgia.)

“Uh,” Dick says. Stumbles to a stop, his vaunted grace and poise nowhere to be found when he needs it, and he belatedly, reluctantly pulls his hands away. Shoves them in the pockets of his jacket for lack of anything else to do with them. “There you go, got it.”

Tim’s smile widens into a grin, some little spark of something in his eyes as he tilts his head just so.

Democrats held onto the Governors seat in NJ

Virginia just elected its first female Governor, flipping the seat from Republican to Democrat. And it doesnt stop there. The Lt. Governor AND Attorney General also flipped from Republican to Democrat.

Pennsylvania voted to retain all 3 Supreme Court judges in its state preserving the Democrats 5-2 Majority

Maine elected to NOT pass a law that would force people to "prove citizenship" before voting. Which is good because only citizens can vote anyway and passing a law like that would only serve to allow discrimination of POC.

Colorado voted to tax the wealthy higher to fund free school meals AND use the excess from that to fund SNAP

AND Prop 40 is looking like its going to pass with flying colours.

It wasnt all wins. Texas passed a draconian Parents rights law that allows them even more control over their children's lives - likely in an anti-trans bid and they passed their own version of the whole "prove citizenship" thing.

BUT LOOK!! LOOK AT ALL THESE WINS!!!

THE RESISTANCE IS THERE AND ITS LOUD!!! THIS COULD BE JUST A TASTE OF WHAT WE CAN DO COME MID-TERMS. If we all collectively keep up the energy and VOTE LIKE HELL we can make a Blue Wave happen and SERIOUSLY kneecap this attempt at an Authoritarian Regime!

I know that we get a lot of bad news and we get it every day. But the good is there! The regime is failing left right and centre and this can be the first glimpse at what we can do!
