Maximillian Myers genuinely believes that "teamwork makes the dream work" and in willingness of human beings to cooperate, as well as underlining goodness of human nature. But he also knows that people are really bad at organising by themselves, so he took it upon himself. His first target of organisation was home, where he finally organised all the chores, divided them by days and the people, where everyone was given an appropriate task for a reasonable amount of effort. Which was highly appreciated by his chaotic family with grandparents, aunts and their husbands and kids and of course his parents and his siblings. In such a big house it was natural that something was lost or forgotten so Max was trying to keep it all as organised as conditions let him.

Another opportunity at proving his incredible organisational abilities arose when he volunteered to be a class president. His optimistic and friendly attitude combined with punctuality and incredible management structured brain (and hardworking studious attitude) won him many favours with with the teachers. He even volunteered to organise some school wide events which went through successfully. "Clear communication and basic politeness can get you very far in the world", he told people humbly, but the organisational duties kept growing as he was now organising bigger and bigger events, calling in friends from previous ones, some contacts that he might've known from his family, accepting a few partnerships from different business owners who wanted a little bit of promotion at the events. Next thing he knows he somehow managed to be in charge of some of the biggest events at the age of 20 and making so much money it was getting embarrassing for him, so he regularly donated a large sum to the best charities he knew, including the ones he organised events for. And one day he finds out that he was nominated on the Ultimate title, actually as he was in the middle of planning the event of Ultimate Title award that year. He doesn't know if he actually deserved it, but he did cry on stage.

Getting caught up in a killing game was a sort of double edged sword, on one hand he was given so much free time he haven't had in forever it seemed like, on the other side it was a literal killing game where they were supposed to kill each other. So he tried to take it upon himself to organise everyone and make them feel more safe with each other, once again, being in that sort of leadership position. Turns out not everyone was particularly a fan of it, some disliked his attitude and "friendship is magic" type hype-speeches, which kinda hurt, but he was managing. Some people thought he was quite naive to believe that just because he was managing everyone's food intake and exercise and laundry no one will kill, he knew how optimistic it sounded, he wanted to believe anyway.

So when the first trial ended and two people were dead and Harumi pointed out that it was his own schedule that made the murder possible in the first place, he lost some of his drive to lead the group. He still tried very hard to make people to trust (if not each other, then at least him), to be friends with everyone who would at least stand his encouraging smile. Then another trial happened where the murderer was a person who was possibly the gentlest and kindest one in the whole place, it made him break down in the courtroom, crying, he couldn't even See the execution, just a blur. He just tried to be in a good place next time they saw him, trying to be a happy and determined Max they knew. He distracted himself with cleaning and making everything presentable while everyone else tried to relax. The third trial of the double murder had him break once more, he, once more, tried to believe in someone's innocence and protect them, but he was wrong. He was very quiet during the 4th chapter and trial to a point where he was even accused of the fourth murder and he didn't understand why he couldn't find it in himself to care.

Chapter 5 is when he finally lost it. He looks in a mirror and thinks. About his life, about how he spend it managing everyone else, how useless it is when it comes to a situation where everyone needed him to be a good leader and a good person. He came to a conclusion that he was neither. And it was strangely freeing. He finally understood what the other person meant when he said "murders where unavoidable", this place was created, manufactured, tailored, manicured to make them kill each other. And that means this place also has a manager. And because there's literally nowhere to hide here, high chance it was one of the people he thought of as a friend. If he just figured so before, if he wasn't so willfully ignorant... He took note of a few things when they were exploring the new deck. Including a fucking handgun which was so conveniently placed, semi-hidden in captain's quarters. So he manufactured a not really well-thought through plan of getting the "captain" and cameras off-line, turning off the eyes for the "mastermind" behind the game. And then showing up to the remaining survivors with the gun in hand, saying that his plan is to murder only one person, the one behind this shit-show of a game. He ends up signing up to Harumi's insane plan on how to execute the Mastermind, which meant he agreed to a suicide mission, but by that point his own life didn't really mean much to him anyway.

When he wakes up after simulation all he can think is "fuck. Why do I have to live?".
