Devilman is a hugely influential manga created by Go Nagai in the early 1970s. Many plot elements in Japanese media since then can be traced back to Devilman. To give some examples, Neon Genesis Evangelion (including Rebuild), Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and the Shin Megami Tensei series all contain plot elements with either a strong resemblance to Devilman or reference it directly. Even Kaworu from Evangelion, who has spawned many copies himself, is heavily inspired by Devilman’s Ryo.
