a great concept
My friend worked with the People With AIDS Coalition in 1990 and found this while cleaning out some old folders. I can't stop thinking about it.
I recently started binging the Versus Wolves podcast and the lore behind that show is so crazy I feel it can only be properly conveyed via greentext
> Be John in 2015
> Random Irish guy with crippling anxiety
> Watching one of your favorite podcasts, the Super Best Friendcast
> Woolie goes on an extended rant about how much he hated Hunter x Hunter
> "What the fuck that's one of my favorite anime!!"
> Cope, seethe, mald, etc.
> Seethe so hard you start a YouTube channel and make a video about how much you love Hunter x Hunter
> Video actually does pretty well - time to make more I guess?
> Become successful youtube video essayist
> Get invited to conventions
> Meet Woolie at a convention
> He's a great guy and you get along super well
> Become close friends with him
> You play off your origin story to do a miniseries together where you force him to watch Hunter x Hunter
> He only watches one arc of the show and still is not a fan
> Years later - now 2024
> Start a podcast with him where the entire premise is that you recommend each other media (or sometimes other things) and then report back
> Wait until the podcast has a Patreon set up so there's additional pressure to put out an episode on time and fulfil the recommendation
> Recommend him the next two arcs of Hunter x Hunter
> He watches it and actually thinks it's pretty good
> mfw
The secondary punchline to this story is that Woolie's original rant was about the 1999 anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter, not the 2011 adaptation which is the one that John loves - meaning that Super Eyepatch Wolf's entire YouTube career only exists because a Let's Player on a podcast 10 years ago wasn't clear enough about which anime he was complaining about
