okay now I'm very curious how you would rank the districts in Pacific Bay!
I knew this was going to start something, and I’m not disappointed in the least!
I confess, Pacific Bay is my least favourite season for personal reasons. (I know, shocker when City of Romance exists, but that’s not really a season, so I exempt it.) I went through a lot of bad things in my life while writing my S2 story, and unfortunately, my love for PB was a casualty. But before all that happened, I did enjoy it, and some of the districts were a lot of fun!
So, while I’ll try to keep my personal feelings out of this, they’ll still come through, as this season is the one I have the most conflicting emotions about, and it's the hardest for me to separate them. But I promise to do my best!
I’ve already complained about S1 and S2’s final districts being way too short, but I will admit that, even though The Wastes features only three cases, I found it to be a better final district than The Airport in S1. But, it's only 3 cases, so you still speedrun through the plot that was the climax of PB and even if I do think the 3 case did an okay job of wrapping up the season, again, we discover that a man somehow uploaded his brain to a supercomputer, launched a nuclear strike on PB, broken previous killers out of jail for a battle to the death type thing and all this happens within a few days?
I usually tend to put the first district of a season pretty low because while they are good, they’re just the introduction to the season, so I don’t expect them to be the grandest of the grand. But, Ocean Shore was still attention-grabbing with its unique cases and did a good job at introducing you to the craziness of PB!
Second district, third lowest in my opinion. I liked playing it, and Erikah Mabayo was one of my favourite characters, but it wasn’t as exciting as other districts. I enjoyed the whole supernatural aspect of the district (even if it was fake), but overall, I liked the plots of other districts better.
As disgusting as it is to imagine what Rupert Snow would have looked like if he’d succeeded in his plan to “unite the Russian and Chinese communities,” I have to give credit where credit is due when it comes to unique plots! It was interesting to see how many of the cases were tied together by the organ-stealing plot, even though, on the surface, they might not have seemed related. Having the side plot of Inner Chaos was cool, as it allowed for a focus on that aspect instead of immediately jumping into the organ-stealing plot.
This and Innovation Valley are middle grounds for me when it comes to PB. I don’t love them, but I also don’t hate them. Both are interesting in their own ways, but Ivywood Hills is slightly lower, as parts of it felt like filler while we waited for Amy to return. I’m not saying she needed to return earlier, especially given everything she went through in White Peaks, but it felt dragged out at times. Still, the district was interesting, thanks to the Utopian plot of trying to mind-control the entire world, and I enjoyed spotting the references to movies, TV shows, and other things hidden within the cases.
As previously stated, Innovation Valley falls in the middle of the list for me. However, I chose to place it slightly higher than Ivywood Hills because it played into and helped foreshadow the plot of the final two districts. We got to meet Karen Knight, who was one of the main pieces of foreshadowing for what was to come, at least for the plot centred around her, Frank and their kids. Plus, the nanobot problem we had to deal with was super cool and, in some ways, felt like a more technologically advanced idea based on the Utopian brain-washing plot.
I was debating putting this one in third place, but decided to put it in fourth. Although the plot for the heist was well-written and the identity of the “sixth man” was kept a secret until the end, this district wasn’t very fun to play. Sure, the cases were unique and interesting, however, some aspects felt out of place and unnecessary. Also, I thought this district would have focused somewhat more on Roxie since it was like a “party district” and each teammate, except for her, got a district where they played a significant role in the plot, so I was disappointed that she didn’t get to be in the spotlight like the rest.
Even if Amy wasn’t my favourite at first, she grew on me, especially thanks to S6, and likewise so did White Peaks. It was interesting to see how her family’s past was tied into the Nightwalker plot and watch her go through it all and still come out stronger on the other side instead of letting it defeat her. Arresting your brother for being a serial killer couldn't have been easy, and while Amy was ready to give up on her dream of being a cop, she didn’t, and that’s something I greatly admire about her. I'm happy we got to see it and watch her grow more confident in herself and her skills following this district.
I think the main reason I can’t put this as number one is that I HATE that, after learning about aliens being real and Andrea finally discovering the truth about her childhood, everyone except for the player’s memories of it are erased! AND we left Jarvis Donne in prison for a crime he technically didn’t commit! How is that fair? But besides those things, I still loved playing the district because, in case it wasn’t obvious, I really like space!
Jazz Town has been and probably always will be my favourite PB district. I love the New Orleans vibe, how music is such a big part of the district, and Yann is my favourite PB teammate, so of course I would enjoy the district that focuses on him! I also enjoyed how the plots for the weather machine and hurricanes were blended with The Puppeteer's plot, without overshadowing the other, except during the cases where the plots reached their designated climaxes. It was interesting to see two major plots work so well together, and overall, this district remains at least one of the best, even without my personal biases.
……..This was a lot harder than I thought it would be to answer…….
Sorry for completely failing to keep personal feelings out of this answer. I usually try to stay unbiased when it comes to questions like these to be more fair, but it was a lot harder than I thought it would be…
I apologize for this not being my best work. Thinking about Pacific Bay like this brought up more bad memories than I thought it would… But I hoped you enjoyed the list nonetheless! I’m sure everyone would rank the districts differently, so you’re welcome to share your thoughts on how you think the PB districts should be ranked!
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go look at some of my comfort pieces to drive away the negative thoughts.
Thank you for the ask, Shark!✨
