oh oh!! I’ve been wondering for a while, does latin have diminutives? I’m trying to learn how to address and compliment my cat in different languages :D
It certainly does! Latin diminutives are usually formed by adding -olus (-a, -um) or -colus (-a, -um) or a variation thereof to the noun stem. There are several grammatical rules about how to do this depending on the sounds found in the stem, but some potentially feline examples:
filiolus/filiola (little son/daughter; from filius)
bestiolus/a (little creature; from bestia)
corculus/a (little heart; from cor)
deliciolae (darling; from delicium)
minusculus/a (little thing; from minus)
