maybe i'm just nit picking, but alicent and helaena's characterization this ep was so back and forth??? like alicent, what do you mean helaena MUST have an abortion bc the child will either end up killed or a hostage, yet in the VERY NEXT SCENE she's trying to convince helaena to leave jaehaera behind bc she will be safer as a prisoner?? so rhaenyra will kill helaena's unborn child no matter what, but she won't hurt jaehaera bc she's a girl?? are we FORGETTING THAT RHAENYRA'S HUSBAND HAD JAEHAERYS DECAPITATED???? alicent girl you are directly defying your own logic from just moments ago. you cannot have your cake and eat it too.
helaena reading her mother for filth, rightfully not trusting her, and blatantly calling her out for lying, then in the VERY NEXT SCENE, trusting her enough to go along with yet ANOTHER failed escape plan??? the one time helaena shows justifiable anger at alicent, the one time she has a super valid reason to not trust her mother (i.e. alicent forcing the moon tea), and it's all undone in the next scene, where she seems to not mind going on the run alone with the woman who just tried to force an abortion on her??
and if helaena is this all knowing prophetess the writers are trying to establish her as, then wouldn't she know that alicent's dumbass plans aren't gonna work? i love helaena, but she has spent the last two seasons being nothing but a walking spoiler, doing NOTHING to try to help her family or protect herself bc blah blah blah, nobody can stop this, this is how the story must go. the way they're currently writing her, it seems like the writers want helaena to have just enough agency to Make Things That Need to Happen Happen but not enough agency to do anything "bad" that might make her morally complex and not the blameless infantilized autistic girl that they've already established her as. she's FINALLY allowed to have her own thoughts and wants, she's finally allowed to show anger, to show any emotions AT ALL, but only when it shows how horrible of a mother alicent is. and so much of the first two seasons was spent establishing her as a non-person that it just feels hollow and self contradictory.
people who call criston cole westeros first incel are doing themselves a disservice by reading his character in that way because now i just think theyre stupid and racist. if you cannot conceptualize why or how a dornish character who, as said in tonights episode, has lived in perpetual servitude since birth, would want to bank all of his hopes and dreams on escaping feudalism with a beautiful women hes come to love (therein saving her from this way of life as well) then i do not know what to tell you. embarrassing
Man, I hate what they did to Alicent in HOTD. Selling her family out to the enemy so she can go have a quiet life in the woods with Helaena. Trying to convince Helaena to abort her child. Telling Helaena to leave Jaehaera behind so they can run away.
Show!Alicent doesn't love her children. She wants her sons dead and sees her daughter as an accessory, not someone with her own thoughts and desired. Alicent only liked Helaena because she did as she was told, unlike her brothers. Ugh, and let's not talk about her weird relationship with Rhaenyra after all these years. Book!Alicent would NEVER.
I know it's said about every character within HOTD BUT MY GOD did Mysaria deserve to be written better in the show GOD. there's nothing to her show counterpart besides being the sneaky mistress of Rhaenyra and now there's a theory after tonight's episode that she may be persuaded by Alicent after having some sort of conversation with her.
not to mention that Rhaenicent stans (🙄) keep bashing her simply because they see her as an enemy to their ship which like. what??? it's laughable
Mysaria is Hess’s self-insert, and once you view her that way, most of the bizarre writing choices suddenly make far more sense.
She is not allowed to exist as the complicated political operator she was in the book. Instead, she becomes whatever the writers need in that moment: Rhaenyra’s lover, moral adviser, secret strategist, or convenient obstacle for Rhaenicent shippers to attack.

It's so interesting to me how I always told that "alicent loves helaena the most" is just bullshit, because in the show alicent is the reason of Helaena's sorrow. Alicent made her marry Aegon, made her the queen, made her feel small, betrayed the whole family, betrayed Helaena's children and husband. There's a reason Helaena always tries to get away from Alicent's touch. The new episode just proved me right once again. She made Helaena leave her daughter in the hands of the killers, she wants to make her abort a child Helaena wants and already loves, she wants to take control over her daughter's body and mind and she was doing it all of Helaena's life.
The only reason Alicent does anything "for Helaena" is because she sees her as her young self and the only person showAlicent loves is herself.
They made Alicent a complete sociopath in the show. Book Alicent would have chewed her arm off before ever letting anyone harm her children.
"they made alicent a victim and sympathetic!!" no, book alicent was a victim of viserys' & rhaenyra's & daemon' awful life choices that put her and her beloved family in an impossible situation and she had my sympathy. what they did to show alicent inatead is making her a team black rhaenyra dickrider more enthused about killing her own family members than the scumbags who ruined her & her children's lives. literally the worst writing decision to have happened to my green queen
Guess what Condall and Hess see as redemptive arc is basically the portrayal of a sociopath (Alicent). Abort the kid, leave the other kid behind to save your own ass. I assume Helaena will be left behind as well as soon as she becomes a liability.
Bravo Condall, bravo Hess!
The door to the psychiatrist is on the right.
And would have killed Helaena if Helaena took that moon tea. Her pregnancy’s too advanced.
Of Valyrians, Empress Matilda, and 'civilians don't count'.
Of cabbages, bastards, and 'sharp questioning'.
She’s only as smart as the writers, I guess. Make of that what you will. Even book Rhaenyra wasn’t this dumb. 🤣
What in the Rhaenyra x Daemon x Mysaria x Alicent was this🐂💩 3x05 was tolerable mostly for Daemyra, Rhaesaria, Rhaenicent shippers and trash for others.
I wish I knew, anon. 🙃
People kept insisting Episode 5 would change everyone’s minds and finally reveal the brilliance we were apparently too stupid to recognize.
Yet here we are, with only three episodes left, and the only thing this shitshow has accomplished is becoming more incoherent and ridiculous every week. Whatever romantic geometry they thought they were creating, it certainly was not compelling television.
I about died laughing when Alicent told Mysaria she was nothing but a side piece. She had the audacity to look shocked and hurt. Like, yeah, bitch, what did you expect? That Rhaenyra would leave her husband for you? 🤣

Ahh ok so I know this is an artblog and I never reblog anything, but I had to chime in!
So the whole white glove thing comes from early black & white animation, most notably the Mickey Mouse shorts, but also the Looney Tunes and the Max Fleischer toons. The gloves serve two purposes:
One; the gloves are big and makes those over-the-top hand gestures more prominent. It allows the characters to be more expressive, which is necessary for some of the mute cartoons.
Secondly, these characters tend to be completely black, like Felix the Cat (who was one of the inspirations for Mickey). The black color is easier to animate, but you end up with a problem: if their hands were over their bodies or a dark background, you wouldn’t see them! In Mickey’s first appearance in Steamboat Willie, Mickey and Pete don’t have their gloves, and everything kind of bleeds together.
Adding the gloves in the later shorts, you can see the distinction between his body and hands. Problem solved!
Even after technicolor cartoons arrived, the gloves stuck.
Apparently, Bugs Bunny didn’t wear gloves for a bit after the color cartoons came, but audiences asked why he stopped wearing them so the animators changed it back.
I FEEL AS THOUGH A HUGE PART OF MY CHILDHOOD HAS BEEN UNTANGLED!!!
It’s the same with why actors and actresses are seen wearing more makeup than usual in black and white movies that are remastered into color. The black and white camera washed out their lips and cheeks and the makeup was needed for distinction.
Next up someone is going to claim that the Narnia series isn't kids books.
Kids books is probably not the best way to word it, you can enjoy them at every age, including your childhood, as you get older you may find new truths in them, but they're still good for any age.
I want you to understand this. I NEED you to understand this. My mother read me the hobbit as bedtime story, and I started pushing myself to read before pre-school so I could in fact read the hobbit for myself instead of having to wait for bedtime.
I didn't do so right away but jesus wept I PUSHED myself to learn to read SPECIFICALLY so I could read The Hobbit! It is, in fact, a children's story! And children only see page count as 'there is a lot of this fun story to read!'
Like... come on man, 310 pages isn't even what I would've considered a particularly long book as a kid.

Did anyone else get the ick when Emma started comparing Jace to Rhaenyra’s other romantic endeavours? They sound like those boy-mums who think their son is a replacement husband.
Again I have absolutely no idea how they came this conclusion considering it’s very clear in the few interactions the mother-son duo have that Jace and Rhaenyra don’t get on, but it’s still icky that Emma would say that.
I think that was the show’s pathetic attempt to manufacture some emotional connection between Rhaenyra and Jace through an interview again.
This is their idea of writing a believable parent-child bond, which says everything about how fucking inept they are. 😑
ormund in the book canon just being a good person standing up for his family doing what's right as lord and being a genuine proper foster father to his nephewcousin daeron vs. show ormund who's...well all greens are the antichrist in condal & hess' universe i guess
