F&B is not Green propaganda
I know some diehard Team Black fans are going to get in the comments, but I don't care. This is my blog, and I have the power of the block button on my side.
Disclaimer: I'm neither Team Green or Team Black
So recently I've gotten my hands on my own copy of F&B and read the Dance of Dragons, and so I feel that I can wholeheartedly say that this is not Green propaganda. Now, are there a few things in there that's iffy? Yes, but propaganda no.
Since season 1, I've been hearing how the books are Green propaganda and biased against Rhaenyra, and you shouldn't trust what's in the books. So naturally, I went in expecting Rhaenyra to be some horrible cartoon villain and the Greens to be these super nice, righteous people. It was neither 😐.
Rhaenyra was arrogant and cruel. She wasn't always cruel, but the taxes she imposed on the smallfolk were cruel as h*ll
Alicent was Arrogant
Otto was the same pimping schemer he is in the show
Aegon was lazy, arrogant, and cruel.
Aemond was violent, arrogant, and arguably stupid.
Daeron was a war criminal
Daemon is more or less the same evil guy who has good moments, like he is in the show
Aegon is very much not painted to be any better than Rhaenyra is. They're all unlikeable. They're just a bunch of arrogant a*ssholes forcing the people of the realm to suffer and die because of their family squabble.
The only good people are:
Jace, who was brave and politically savvy. He was very much missed by Rhaenyra's supporters when he died.
Luke, who, while we didn't get much on him, you could tell from what we did get was brave and honorable
Joffrey, who was, to his detriment, brave to a fault
Heleana, who was a good mother and beloved by the smallfolk
Rhaena who you barely even see for most of the war but is said to be kind
Beala, who was brave enough to fight a dragon and man older than her
Aegon II and Viserys II
Notice how most of the people on this list are from Team Black. If the books were truly written to make team black seem bad, then these people would not have been portrayed as the good people they are. And the Greens wouldn't have been portrayed as bad as they are. Like, there is nothing likable about the greens accept Heleana and Helena's children.
And for those who do think the books are propaganda, what do you think actually happened? You think Rhaenyra was some ultra-humble, nice girl who cared about the well-being of the smallfolk. Keep in mind we're talking about a woman who was born into a dynasty at its peak and was supposed to take over said dynasty. The same woman who the smallfolk rioted against and killed her dragon and mutilated her son's body 🤨? No boo, hate to burst your bubble, but that's not who she was; she wasn't Daenerys' prototype ( if any other Targaryen is Dany's prototype, it would be Aegon V). And I've actually seen someone defend the show making her this stain who can do no wrong by saying "she's Dany's ancestor, of course she's a good person" 🤨😞. And again, it's like no, that's not how that works. This is almost 200 years before Dany is born; what kind of person Nyra is has nothing to do with the kind of person Dany is. Also, Dany is the descendant of Aegon the Unworthy 😐; if you don't know who he is, look him up.
And one last thing: the same way I've been hearing since season 1 that the books are green propaganda, I've also been hearing complaints about the show straying away from the books. And my thing is, if you denounce the book as being nothing more than green propaganda, then why would you get so upset if that's not being portrayed on your screen 🤨?
They really want us to believe that alicent would give up her children to die. The same alicent that tried to take revenge for her son’s eye, the same alicent that stood infront of a dragon to protect her son, the same alicent that begged for Helena to be free and only she takes punishment, the same alicent that did the hardest thing a mother could do and sent her baby away.
The show writers are doing everything in their power to make Alicent a terrible mother who would be 100% okay with killing or betraying her kids just for her own freedom . It's just so surprising to see what they're doing with her when in the book, Alicent loves her kids and would fight tooth and nail for them.
If Alicent truly didn’t love her children, the Dance wouldn’t have happened the way it did. One of Alicent’s central motivations is protecting her children and securing their future. If she didn’t care about Aegon, Aemond, Helaena, and Daeron, why would she spend years supporting Aegon’s claim? Why would she fear for their safety? Why would she oppose Rhaenyra’s accession at all? Her entire political position is built on the belief that her children are at risk in a succession crisis. Remove that maternal motivation, and much of her involvement in the conflict no longer makes sense.
"It all goes back and back to our mothers and fathers and theirs before them."

Jace in heaven rn after THAT scene:
I know, we were all gagged and flabbergasted. They gave us THAT but not even a kiss on the cheek from Baela and Jace. Writers, your days are numbered!
ok so first, it's rhaena's fault that jace dies. second, baela kisses alyn like 2 seconds after his death. why does it feel like these writers are desperately trying to villainize the dragon twins???? like yeah baela and alyn were married after the dance, but having her kiss him 2 days after her fiancé of ten years dies?? idk i feel like both of the girls will get nettles storyline & the writers are trying to villainize them to make rhaenyra seem better somehow.

Fighting Cersei opinions is so hard because I hate when people call her dumb but she actually is dumb, it's just that her delusion and paranoia is making her make these stupid decisions and it is fact that her training and education was mostly what suited a lady so she isn't exactly taught some political things but there isn't this considerable Tywin - Cersei gap where Cersei is just so stupid, she isn't dumb that way at all.
ive said this before but we get inside of her head by a point where she is overcome by grief and paranoia. her shortcomings and incompetence at ruling and politicking can be tracked back to how she was withheld the education that her brothers had access to, was shoved aside by her misogynistic father and reared to be his submissive chess piece to be sold to serve and please the men in her life, and that she thoroughly internalized her father’s flawed world views. she is self-centered, impulsive, arrogant, traumatized, paranoid and inexperienced with being in a true position of power, not to mention how utterly terrified she is of losing power so she is hesitant about trusting or following advice from anyone. on top of that nobody respects her or takes her seriously at all because of her gender, which is an incredible disadvantage.
#tywin's delusions manifest more in cersei and tyrion than jaime because he /controlled/ so much more of their lives #tywin moved cersei strategically between casterly rock and the court until her marriage. and she was no freer with an abusive husband. #jaime left casterly rock as a preteen and served (for better and worse) men who were not lannisters #but cersei and tyrion's outside influences in childhood were visiting lannister aunts and uncles who ultimately deferred to tywin #and cersei's right in a way? there are factions seeking to exploit and undermine her at any opportunity #tywin's vicious but ultimately short-sighted model of government is more appealing and effective than robert's drunken blundering #those are the models (in the absence of the kind of education reserved for men) she learned from via @fortunate-hal
"dance of the dragons is a fight between rhaenyra and her half-brother aegon for control of the seven kingdoms" but in s1 they made it rhaenyra vs alicent, in s2 it was rhaenyra vs aemond, and it seems that in s3 it will be rhaenyra vs ormund. like. my god. they are making her beefing with everyone else EXCEPT aegon 😭 meanwhile they are making aegon beefing with his OWN BROTHER. what is this show

(random disclaimer, i dont support aegon as a person or a character, to me he's still a person who assaulted servant and who celebrated when his 14 year old nephew got brutally murdered. This post is mostly about how show decided to take haelena's relationship with her brother-husband, and turn it into a worse thing than it was. So, this is about haelena. And how she was done wrong. Free my girl, she doesn't deserve anything bad.)
Yk, I've read a lot of hotd fanfics, and the thing is, in most of them, haelena and aegon's relationship is portrayed as an abusive, terrible marriage where aegon is being a shitty husband to haelena, cheating on her left and right, not giving a fuck about her, or downright either verbally or physically abuses her.
Like, what show are you watching, or what book are you reading?
Yes, aegon did cheat on haelena, and he was shitty for that. But we cant forget that they were pretty much forced into their marriage by their parents and didn't really have a strong romantic love for eachother. They were siblings, what else are they suppose to do?
But saying that aegon abused haelena is genuinely not the most right thing anyone can say.
In the show he is mostly distant from her. We only get two scenes with them together. In the first one he ignores her to bring jaehaerys to the council meeting, and in the second, they share a look between each other, after the death of their son, which was very traumatic for both of them (even if show mostly glossed over it).
And there's one scene at the feast where haelena says that aegon mostly ignores her, except when he's drunk.
And the thing is, aegon is a bitch in the show, drunk or not drunk.
And, in another scene, where aegon is getting ready to go get sunfyre and join the battle, haelena seems to know what he's up to, she understands what he's feeling. She doesn't stop him because she knows there's no point in it. He will go anyways.
So, what im trying to say is, in the show, they are siblings who happened to be married by their parents word. They been through a lot together.
Tbh, i cant say a lot about their relationship in the show because the show runners are telling us one thing, yet showing us another. Its messy like everything.
Yet, in the books, they have much better relationship with each other. They not only share a room, but a bed. Which is something not even their parents do.
Aegon listened to haelena when she suggested that he should send a peace treaty to rhaenyra. And after it failed, he didnt even blame her. (If i remember Correctly, he blamed orwyle)
After jaehaerys being murdered, he gets alicent to take care of maelor and jaehaera because he knows that haelena is in no state to do so. He also doesn't sleep in the same room as her anymore.
we can say that it was shitty that he ran away and left haelena. But, he left alicent and otto too. And maybe it was because haelena was in no state to run away with him.
Now, aegon murdering rhaenyra. To him, she is mostly responsible for haelena's, jaehaery's and maelor's deaths. So, while rhaenyra's death is a tragic thing from her and aegon III's perspective, from aegon's, its kind of a revenge for his wife and kids deaths. Also, his brother's death.
This was a long rant and may or may not make sense. But, haelena deserved and deserves better.
