my name is cri! i’m 19 and i live in italy!!

my favourite colour is GREEN! if i buy something i always try to get it in green (in a pretty sage shade if possible!).

if you’re not new to my blog you might have noticed how i love yapping. at the moment my content is mostly aot analysis (with a focus on the marleyan warriors), fan fictions and au!

my favourite aot characters are my n.1 annie, reiner, berthold, armin, pieck and gabi!

in my free time i like to write, crochet, read, roleplay and play board games! i also have an obsession over identity v (which im currently boycotting), the sims and stardew valley!

my favourite books are the picture of dorian gray, frankenstein and wuthering heights.

i am a feminist. most of my analysis will focus on how being a woman impacts the perception of a character and the judgement on their actions. no misogyny is allowed here, this is a safe space for everyone, but especially for women, queer people, non-white people and disabled people.

i am about to start sociology university, so that’s a big part of me. i am no one without the principles i stand for.

also, english is not my first language, so i apologise if something i say is not very understandable.

Today I wanna put together all my thoughts about how I picture the modern version of my favourite aot character: Annie! This one is probably gonna be a long post... but let's start!!

Annie doesn't care about her biological parents. She doesn't want to know who they are or why they abandoned her, that's because even her adoptive father was an awful person so she could't imagine how bad her biological parents could have been. Out of curiosity she took a DNA test to find out she's half Russian and half British, while her father immigrated to England from Thailand. They both fit perfectly in all those english people stereotypes.

She's 20.

She's messy but very very clean.

When she was a child Mr. Leonhart wanted her to take violin lessons because it was his dream. It turned out that she was very talented and it became her father's obsession: he would make her practice a lot of hours everyday because he wanted her to be perfect and win every contest she participated in. She won every time, but she started to feel grossed out by the instrument and her father. When she became a teenager she found out about rock/metal/punk music and she started to rebel against him. She worked hard to buy her first guitar and she learned how to play it by herself. Before she moved for college Mr. Leonhart apologized for all the trauma he caused to her child.

Her goal is to fix the relationship with her father, there's nothing that she wishes more than to be loved like a daughter is loved by her father.

She is majoring in music production!

She plays in a band in a small bar, sometimes during the week and sometimes in the weekend.

She's pansexual.

She is a men-hater.

She can never read the room, that's why sometimes she makes situations extremely awkward for others. This gets worse because Annie is very sarcastic: she might be saying the worst thing at the worst time ever. She doesn't mince words too, she's always very direct about what she wants to say.

She has a weird relationship with Hitch. They got very close in college and Hitch
immediately got a crush on her. They did a lot of romantic stuff and sometimes they even had more intimate moments, but when Hitch revealed her feelings to Annie she said she didn't want anything serious. Hitch got extremely mad but she wasn't able to leave Annie (she just loves her too much). They stopped with the physical touch when Hitch realised Annie was falling for Armin (I love doomed yuri) (this is literally good luck babe by chappell roan).

Given the situation with Hitch she was scared of the feeling she was developing for Armin.
She felt like she wasn't able to build a relationship because she would hurt the other person no matter what, but Armin turned out pretty patient with her. Their thing was very very private at first, but slowly everyone realised they were dating.

Berthold also had a crush for her, it was pretty evident but Annie never noticed. She always hangs out with Bert and Reiner, they're her best friends, and Hitch was extremely jealous of that because she knew, as everyone except for Annie, that Berthold had a crush on her. That's why she doesn't like him.

She's very private but somehow a lot of people have a crush on her (lol). She doesn't imagine that, anyway.

Since she's trying to fix her relationship with her dad she goes home anytime she can to do father-daughter activities. Their favourite is going to museums and hiking.

Annie is very sporty, she loves ice skating, climbing and boxing. She goes to the gym four times a week and two is just to practice boxing with other people. Reiner usually goes with her and they spot each other.

She clearly needs therapy but she says she doesn't. Reiner, which started seeing a therapist for his reasons, is trying to convince her that'd be good for her.

growing up with a father like hers and then training in the warriors unit was a very harsh experience. annie is seen as an emotionless woman and yet she is the warrior that cries the most out of everyone.

she cried when they took eren from her, realising that she killed a big amount of people for nothing and that she couldn’t go back to her father because the mission wasn’t done yet.

annie is a very strong and independent woman and crying isn’t seen as a weakness in her eyes. annie cries, annie gets frustrated, annie gets mad.

also in this scene she feels SO upset that not only she is crying, but the titan itself. i think it reflects well enough how deep her pain is.

she cries when she gets defeated and realises that she needs to crystallise herself to survive: she doesn’t know if her comrades will save her or when she’ll have the occasion to get out safely. she thought she could finally go home and see her father, but her only wish (and reason to keep living) now looks so far.

imagine being a girl in the army and there’s only one other girl with you. even if annie was pretty avoidant with everyone i feel like with pieck it was a little different.

if you look at this panel pieck has her hand on annie’s shoulder. we never see annie having much physical touch with the others, yet it seems like pieck is allowed to. everyone is behind her and they’re not trying to follow but her friend is right with her.

also none of them had female parental figures while growing up. experiencing girlhood alone must have been difficult, but with each other it was probably a little better. i imagine them discovering new hairstyles together and trying to make them army-approved.

they both fought for the same reason: their father. this somehow probably brought them closer.

Zofia being Annie and Udo being Berthold means so much to me. Reiner left Marley with them and Marcel and he came back alone. Now think about it, among the children who died first when Liberio got attacked? Zofia and Udo.

The two of them REALLY resemble Annie and Berthold: Zofia has blonde hair and bangs, she is also sarcastic like Annie and not overly friendly while Udo has black hair and is the tallest, he is also insecure and clumsy like Berthold.

The choice of killing them is very smart, it’s like Reiner lost his friends once again and couldn’t protect them, leaving Gabi and Falco without their comrades like it happened to him.

hello anon! i see why you think that, but the post wasn’t about berthold or armin at all: it was about annie and the way she would approach motherhood. my post was referring to all the fanarts where annie has children, it doesn’t matter if with berthold or armin. what i said about them is that they both would make sure that she didn’t move around a lot, i never said their dynamic was the same. my thoughts were entirely about how she would feel about pregnancy, not them.

i like beruani simply because i was very attached to it when i was 12, but now that i am almost 20 and i am able to think critically i understand the ship is one-sided and how they barely interact. this doesn’t mean i can’t enjoy the content about them because as i said, i really liked them back then.

also aruani is actually my favourite ship in aot but i don’t have to tell this to anyone to justify my headcanons lol.

I feel like she would be very uncomfortable with the idea of being pregnant: her body has been used as a weapon for someone else her whole life and the thought of carrying a child in her belly would remind her of that somehow. Her body changing a lot for another human being would make her go crazy.

Annie never had a positive parental figure until she came back to marley and tried to fix the relationship with her father. She wouldn’t know AT ALL how to take care of a child both emotionally and physically, especially because unlike Reiner she didn’t even got to train the children so she has ZERO experience with them.

Also in the show is clear how annie gets easily annoyed around children, and I understand that was a stressful situation but I feel like she would’t be very patient. She would absolutely love her child but Armin/Berthold would need to step in for many things. If the baby won’t stop crying Annie WILL actually lose it in no time. I picture her being a better mother for an older child or a teenager, not newborn or toddlers.

Annie would keep training even after the rumbling, she wants to stay the strong woman she has always been. A pregnancy would not allow her to move around a lot and that would stress her out a LOT. Being forced to stay in bed and rest all day (because Armin and Berthold would definitely keep her away from moving a lot like she usually do) would bring her into a very bad pregnancy/motherhood experience.
