a lot of people hate/dislike annie because she (unlike reiner) never apologized directly or sometimes i ever saw comments like "doesn't even care about people she killed"

annie wishes she didn't care but instead wakes up from nightmares and has flashbacks about it

then why did she never apologize like reiner or gabi? the answer is simple - annie doesn't even think she deserves any forgiveness or kindness after all what she's done. her actions are unforgivable and she understands that (thanks to this comment by Shaannooonn that helped me realize it fully)

and she can't even accept armin's kindness without thinking about this (i don't like аr*ani as a romantic ship but they're my top favs and i love their dialogue on the boat. it shows how annie cares about deaths and can't even accept that someone can love her after all that she's done, thinking that armin is just too kind and a good person unlike her [he hates it but that's another topic to discuss])

oh and yes parallels 💥💥💥

something good, simple, "human" happens: playing with a cat (annie likes cats) / armin's confession (ig annie likes armin)

but she can't accept it and immediately self sabotage and thinks that she doesn't deserve this simple life because of her "sins"
