I remember back when I was a little homeschooled kid, my teacher/mom would tell me about how good of a kid her friend's son is. She would tell me how he always listened, always willing to learn, never uses gadgets, and how he always read books. She would also tell me that I was difficult and that if I was more like her friend's son, things would be easier for her and she won't have to be stressed out all the time. This led to me having some sort of resentment towards that boy because I saw how he's better than me at everything.
Now, imagine how I felt when we went on a trip with my mom's friend and her family. I remember playing this detective puzzle adventure game on my tablet, trying to ignore everyone and everything going on around me. He was reading a book. I remember thinking, "of course he's reading a book. He's perfect, after all." Then, he stopped reading, saw what I was playing, and immediately got interested. He started helping me solve the case I was working on and he was genuinely so kind. I felt a horrible sense of guilt. Like, why did I ever hate this kid? What did he do to deserve my resentment? He was never mean to me, he never insulted me or my level of intelligence or my excessive screentime. All he did was do things the best he can.
