Washi fetish.Â
I am sick of seeing people who have no idea what being suicidal feels like making assumptions about suicide.
Hi, this is the girl who went on the "rant" about cancer being worse than mental illness. I would like to clarify that that isn't what I meant at all. I have also dealt with mental illness. I was put on suicide watch twice during chemo and was previously diagnosed with depression in high school. I have scars that aren't from doctors' knives. I meant that comparing mental illness to cancer isn't going to help people take it more seriously. It should be taken seriously of its own accord.
I understand that. Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit. I think the reason people compare it is because both take lives, usually after much suffering. In our society, cancer is the worst thing that can happen to you, so people compare it to make a statement, I guess. Most people just don't realise how bad mental illness can be. I totally understand where you're coming from though. Hope you're doing okay =]

"The reason people don’t go for help is because there’s still a stigma. Because people don’t talk about mental illnesses the way they do other illnesses." - Maria Bamford
Maria Bamford’s The Special Special Special
I will NEVER stop being angry about people who compare mental illness to cancer.  YES, mental illness is a real illness, I hate the stigmas surrounding it, I’ve dealt with (am dealing with) it myself, and I think our society needs to accept that it is a valid medical condition. BUT IT’S NOT CANCER.  Does depression suck? Absolutely.  Can it kill you? Definitely. BUT IT’S NOT THE SAME. Treatment for depression doesn’t put you in a hospital bed, vomiting, with absolutely no control over your body trying to kill itself. You cannot go to chemotherapy, get it taken care of, and get back to work in most cases. Depression doesn’t require life threatening surgeries, treatment that’s almost as likely to kill you as cure you, transplantation of another person’s DNA or organs, or so many of the other terrifying procedures that cancer treatment entails.  I have dealt with both, and they are very different animals. COMPARING MENTAL ILLNESS TO CANCER IS NOT A VALID COMPARISON NOR IS IT GOING TO HELP CHANGE THE WAY SOCIETY VIEWS IT. Let’s start explaining the issues that come with mental illness on their terms, not the terms of an entirely different illness.Â
Are we really fighting over who gets to be the most messed up? Who has it worse? What a sad, sad situation.Â
Since the person above has had their say, I would like to have mine. I will make it clear before I start that I am thoroughly disagreeing with the above rant. Here's why.Â
There are many, many types of mental illness. Not just depression. Some do indeed put you in hospital beds. I have been there. You're right in that cancers and mental illnesses are different kinds of illness. As you say, cancer leaves the sufferer with no control, a body trying to kill itself. Mental illness on the other hand is the case of the mind trying to kill the body it's attached to. I have laid in a hospital bed, my wrists cut, knowing that I have no control.Â
I don't know where you got the idea that people with mental illnesses just go to therapy and 'get it taken care of' but you're sorely mistaken. Eight years and counting. Eight years this illness has stolen from me. My entire adolescence and, so far, the beginning of adulthood.Â
I'm not going to sit here and act like I know anything about the surgeries and treatments you speak of, because I don't and I'd like you and everyone else who is dealing with cancer to know that I am so, so sorry. If I had a cure right now, I'd give it to you. But I do want you to know that some of the drugs that we get pumped with are absolutely horrific. They do heinous things to the mind. I have been a zombie. I have been obsessed with suicide. I have felt dead. I have slept for days. And I haven't even been prescribed the most extreme of drugs available for mental illness, because fortunately I don't suffer with psychosis thus far. Again, I'm not going to debate this one really because you by far drew the short straw.
Cancer of the mind is exactly how I would describe mental illness, whether people like it or they don't. Because that has been my experience and is my experience. It's so painful some days that I physically lose the ability to breathe momentarily. I can't put into words what it is like to have a mind that wants you dead.
I am diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Anxiety Disorder and depression, but I think we will be changing that to Borderline-Bipolar, meaning that I have both disorders. Yes, that's possible. If the average person were to take all the medication I take in a day without building up tolerance first, I have no doubt that they would end up in the hospital. I don't compare it to cancer because I want an award, but because I truly feel my disorders are the mental version.Â
The blood on your hands.

I am SICK and TIRED of people objecting to seeing women using their breasts for what they are actually for. BREASTFEEDING IS NOT VULGAR OR OBSCENE.
OH MY GOD at a shopping centre near me a lady was breastfeeding in the food court and got asked if she would “like to go and do that in the bathroom” because what she was doing was considered offensive and unhygienic.
I’ll say that again.
A WOMAN WAS TOLD TO BREASTFEED HER BABY IN A TOILET BECAUSE WHAT SHE WAS DOING WAS CONSIDERED "UNHYGIENIC".
