Hello everyone! Its me, once again calling attendance for the Blood+ fandom...

(Please don't let there be crickets...)

I was doing a bit of research after finding out that All The Time Anime/Anime Limited released this post sometime in Oct. 2024 that they will be releasing a UK Blood+ Blu Ray Collectors Edition (which... still has not been released yet... ) and was curious why it feels like Blood+ will never get a re-release in the United States.

We've known that it is in licensing limbo right now, but why? A few things I discovered...

1.) The US sucks when it comes to licensing rights.

2.) Aniplex/Sony Entertainment apparently does not care about the older works or legacy anime that they have under their belt because it doesn't make them as much money as new shows.

3.) Lack of demand.

All three of these seem to be a direct causality of each other.

To be honest, I don't even want to get into the licensing stuff... it makes my head hurt and I still don't fully understand it so lets focus on the other two issues.

Lets get this straight: Basically for some reason its more expensive to re-release old titles. Why? Unsure still but my theory is that it mainly has to do with issue no. 3. Demand.

This fandom feels so dead sometimes I feel I'm just talking to myself (I know I'm not, and I definitely see all... *ahem* 5 of you) What happened? It used to be moderately, if not very popular back in the day. I was very very very young when it was released on Adult Swim so forgive me for not having clear memories of that time, but according to what I've heard from older fans, it was popular.

Do I think the lack of demand is the fans fault for letting it die off? Absolutely NOT.

How quickly did Aniplex stop advertising? How quickly did the manga and the DVDs go out of print? Did they move away from Blood+ too fast to focus on Blood-C? Not to mention how they've made it so incredibly hard to stream since Blood+ has entered licensing limbo.

Aniplex letting it fall into the void is exactly why there is a "lack of demand." It's not that we aren't in demand, its that its impossible for us to access it unless we already own all of the DVDs, manga and are willing to spend an arm and a leg to purchase second-hand merch. I have so many people comment on my Tiktoks about how badly they want to watch it, wondering where they can find it, where its streaming and I hate having to break the bad news that they'll have to spend a pretty penny on DVDs or be willing to visit some sketchy sites.

Lets take Ergo Proxy for example. A show released around the same time, similar art style (if you squint) and people still post and talk about it to this day. I see people making videos about it all the time, and its fanbase is still growing. Why? Because it is accessible to stream. Is Ergo Proxy the most famous anime in the world that has a newer, younger fanbase reviving it from the dead? No, but I would argue it's gaining and continuing to gain more popularity every day.

That could be Blood+

Bare minimum, if Aniplex could just let it stream on one platform at least... I believe it'll start to gain in popularity again. They can argue about money all they want

"Well we didn't make money when we had it released in the US"

"Well the DVDs and Box Sets didn't sell very well"

I don't care how many times they think it "failed" when they look at it from a money hungry point of view. If it fails and they lose money, boohoo they are a billion dollar company. They will be fine. So why cant they just take a leap of faith and cough up the money it might take to rerelease it?

I love this little fanbase, I really do. I wish I was someone who liked to gatekeep, but I'm not. I love Blood+ and I want to share it with my friends, strangers, family, the world, I don't care I just want everyone to have the experience of watching it.

I know this post will probably fall victim to the void of Tumblr but if you're a Blood+ fan, please let me know you're here. I would love to try and gather information about how many people would actually be interested in a rerelease.

I know I can't do anything, I'm just a girl who knows nothing about the entertainment industry but I'm desperate at this point. Maybe if Aniplex and Sony can see how many people still love it, or want to watch it, maybe that could get something rolling...

i tend to know how to navigate the internet pretty well when searching for blood+ merchandise, but there’s ONE piece of merch that i missed out on, and someone managed to buy before i had the chance. this was years ago, and my heart is still broken over it. since this listing (will provide screenshot) i haven’t been able to find another one anywhere online, no other pictures. i’m not sure what to do anymore. i literally have reoccurring dreams about this key and it’s been eating me alive for years.

if anyone is savvy enough to help me possibly find another listing, or even simply more PHOTOS of this piece of merch, i’ll forever love you. alternatively, if someone is kind enough to want to *ahem*giftonetomeORsellonetome*ahem* you will forever have my gratitude.

but alas, i fear this may just be something i can never get my hands on. but any help would be great :,) or suggestions on the possibility of making my own maybe? i’m not a jewelry maker so… idk. plus, doesn’t feel quite the same as this, with the fancy box n all.
