I love Emma so much. The show is very simple in terms of art style and animation but it's really well written and paced.

This show is actually so fucking good. I'm not kidding. It's going in my list of 2000's obscure favs. That list really needed a romance in there.

-I'll never get tired of saying how much I enjoy this sort of tone some of these 2000's shows have: Naturalistic and mundane. Seeing characters act so slowly and naturally feels so refreshing when digital content feels so overwhelming these days.

-Emma is a great character I love her. When she talked about how going to William's house made her realize how different their lives and worlds were I related so hard to her. "Awake at night I'll be signing to the birds don't wait for me I can't come" sort of feeling. AND THEN SHE LEFT.

-And when she was cleaning the house before leaving, mourning the life she had had during the last years and the woman who showed her the most kindness and taught her everything 🥺🥺🥺.

-I don't like Hans >:^(. As an extremely general rule, when there's a love corner with a female mc in the middle, I usually go with the non-blonde option, specially if he's working class compared to the blonde. But Hans gave too brooding, emotionally constipated man in the tree scene. I much prefer William's earnest attitude.

-"i dIdnT kNow yOu hATEd mE tHat mUCh" my brother in Christ shut the fuck up, this ain't about you.

-Or maybe I'm just an extremely boring person because very seldom do I prefer the rival guy in any story. I almost always go with the guy the canon chooses, haha.

-The other maid characters in this new season are fun. Tasha is fun.

-In addition to boring, I am also very predictable. If there's a rich girl whose storyline is about liking a guy who doesn't like her back because he's in love with the main female character and she has to deal with that rejection while finding her own worth, I'm gonna root for her. I hope Eleanor finds her own worth soon.

-Huh, Monica seems interesting. Bishie woman with a sister complex.

-Woah! William proposing to Eleanor is not something he will be able to take back easily. Is he really trying to force himself to like her? I wouldn't be upset if this leads to a tragic ending where they end up married and William and Emma never see each other again, but I do feel bad for Eleanor.

-Hooooly shit this show is actually so good. True hidden gem.

-I had totally assumed William's mother was dead. Not only is she alive but she has secluded herself in the countryside and hasn't seen or talked to her family in years?

-NOOOO Emma is attending the engagement party!

-Why do the two other butlers who came to London have the voices of pre-teens? How old are they supposed to be? I'm getting Simoun flashbacks here.

-Nahhhh this scene where they recognize each other at the party is heartbreaking.

-Emma passing out is a weak way to end the scene though. I would have had her run away. I guess it was that way to lead up to the scene where they encounter each other again in the room she was resting in.

-Yeah I knew William wouldn't truly try to fall in love with Eleanor. But is he intending to keep Emma as an affair? That's not fair for either woman man. How is he going to explain the engagement to Emma? Is she going to ask for an explanation?

I have not drawn anything on my tablet in over a year. Today, I decided to pick it up again. This is the study I did.

Rei is my favorite because most of the time she's not even a character. I love those characters that are mostly symbols, specifically symbols of other's desires. Characters who exist as canvases to project stuff on. Rei is pretty, passive, femenine, very literally a mother turned virgin girl. A plastic figurine to be sold covered in bandages because she looks weak and cute. Easier to deal with compared to Asuka, no apparent emotional baggage or perversion like Misato.

And the best/worst part is that all of this is why she is difficult to like as a character.

This video demonstrates pretty well what I meant with this post. "Hideaki Anno considered Rei a non-character, and didn't understand her appeal or know what to do with her." is a statement I've heard and read before. And I think that's the whole point of why I like her.

She's not a character, she's a plot-device. She doesn't really do much and that's why she is easy to like. Those who bought the bandaged Rei figurine and married her in the videogame are treating her like a doll, just the way the show criticizes.
