“Got this illustration for Brace For Impact Part 2 finished! And fun fact, all the designs on Jeanette’s bug dress are drawn individually and not copy pasted. This project is WAY more complicated than I expected, but it’s paying off!”

“Another interesting thing is that, in the story, I describe Jeanette’s painting as more realistic than my cartoony one, but that’s tricky to convey in an illustration that I’m drawing myself…which makes all of it cartoony by default.” 😅

“I’m wearing the cape as a reference to Zero, My Hero. Britt’s spoiled rich girl outfit is a reference to Dollars and Sense. Theo’s boy scout vest with badges is for Unpack Your Adjectives. Ellie’s stars and stripes are just for American History Rock as a whole but they’ll be minty green. Simon’s apple is just because academic flare lol. Jeanette’s sun necklace is for Solar Power To The People and her recycling shirt is for the 3 Rs.”

She talks about how, as a kid, you learn to finish work before you can play and that you take this with you into adulthood. So you keep the mindset of having to finish 'have to' tasks/chores before being allowed to 'play'.
