common nighthawk at my job! said yard work disturbed this little guy from sleeping on the ground, i think. i saw it flop onto the pavement outside while on lunch and went outside to make sure it wasn't injured, which is the only reason i'm getting so close. i think it was just disoriented from the loud awakening because it clumsily took off, adjusted midair, and then landed on our roof.

I love birds and almost all creatures in general, but my two favorite genres of critter are "Baby Who Looks Like Grumpy Old Man" and "Anatomical Features Picked Blindly From A Grab Bag, With No Regard to Size or Proportion"

By themselves those are all credible, valid reasons to be in love with this little legend...but then?

His mouth opens, and you see the entire universe nestled inside. The Gaping Maw of Reality. Galaxies flare into existence and stars collapse into singularities quietly as you watch the Most Giantest Sippy-sip of The Freshy-Fresh.

How is this creature even real??

Himbs pants come up to himbs armpits. Himbs was birb-napped from a post-elevensies nap at Lubys while waiting for the early-bird lunch special after losing (and then finding) himbs AARP Discount Card. He looks like a Eugene or a Murray or a Seymore. Maybe an Oscar. His peeps somehow sound like Milton from Office Space.
