Summary:

It’s summer once more in Kensington Gardens.

The white marble statue of an Angel, half hidden under a canopy of trees, is content enough with his life, his animal friends in the park, the here and now.

Until an unusual Black Nightingale lands on his left wing and sings to him stories of woe, of mystery, of a dear friend lost, of his quest to find the love of his life again.

Every summer, the Nightingale, who remembers only fragments of what really happened to himself and his long-lost soulmate, revisits the Marble Angel, having gathered more hints and ✨Clues✨ to help his quest. The Angel’s marble heart melts with empathy for him, and with other feelings that seem new - but are they?

This is a romantic fairytale, inspired by Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Happy Prince’, retelling Good Omens in symbolic language.

This is the second bang I’ve participated in and the @gosummerbang team has been spectacular in organizing and running both of them! I’m so happy I get to be a part of this amazing event!

Once again didn't make a post last week because I had drowned in preparations for a biggish Blood on the Clocktower event lol Should we have a Good Omens fic where they play Blood on the Clocktower? Because I keep thinking about how to make that happen while making clear what's happening to people who don't know the game.....

Aaaaanyway:

Aziraphale and Crowley make a bet on who can live “like a human” the longest. Apparently that includes dating - how convenient for the both of them! If only they had paid any attention to how humans live! But what can you do when, for the past 6000 years, you only had eyes for each other? Meanwhile, the actual humans around our lovebirds are torn between having to suffer through their shenanigans and enjoying the absurd romcom that is unfolding in front of them.

My personal story behind this fic

This was the first story I ever wrote for an exchange that wasn't just between my closest friends. We sent our preferences for writing and our wishes for the story we'd like to receive to the mods of the GOFWW-server and were paired up accordingly.

I got to write for Augenblickgotter who wanted some "Fish out of water" shenanigans from Aziraphale and Crowley among the humans. I couldn't have asked for a better prompt! Of course, to maximise them being big big weirdos without realising, I needed them to actually try to fit in with humanity — and thus, The Bet™ was born.

I missed the deadline by a week, I think, but everyone was very kind about it. It got a lot longer than I had planned for it to be! To quote my own ending notes on chapter 4: "Don't look at the chapter count - absolutely nothing has changed, it has always been like this! This fanfic isn't getting away from me at all! I am a very organised writer and everything is under control! (this was supposed to be a oneshot originally please send help)"
