recently saw this screenshot in the wild and lost my mind because i knew it wasnt supposed to say girl. its ladykins. its get off the cross ladykins. i know this because ladykins is not something my brain could make up and i remember ladykins. and i was sincerely wondering if someone put in the work to censor ladykins for some inscrutable purposes but then i looked it up and
turns out that actually rupaul made the same tweet twice with 1 word changed 8 months apart. he meditated on this for 8 months and 5 days and the word ladykins came to him. i initially thought he copy pasted the first tweet but i dont think thats true anymore i dont think he was operating with any memory of the first tweet i think these words were always in him and will always be. second tweet did way worse by the way. the people did not respond to ladykins
gonna invest in some sunscreen today. we're getting protection against the sun this winter!!!
Imagine all of these realizations flooding into this person's brain after a slow gestation of 10 years it all bursts open all at once as one realization as every realization and suddenly everything makes sense in a moment of total perfect clarity and oneness with the earth the universe
We need to standardize clothing sizes. This is fucking stupid. Pass a federal law or something. Iβm sick of this shit.

willing to bet money that βno, go backβ is the least-pressed button in the history of the internet
In the future, children will think our ways are strange. "Why do old people always grow so much milkweed in their gardens?" they'll say. "Why do old people always write down when the first bees and butterflies show up? Why do old people hate lawn grass so much? Why do old people like to sit outside and watch bees?"
We will try to explain to them that when we were young, most people's yards were almost entirely short grass with barely any flowers at all, and it was so commonplace to spray poisons to kill insects and weeds that it was feared monarch butterflies and American bumblebees would soon go extinct. We will show them pictures of sidewalks, shops, and houses surrounded by empty grass without any flowers or vegetables and they will stare at them like we stared at pictures of grimy children working in coal mines
We will be feeding our grandchildren strawberries and raspberries we grew in our gardens, dragging them along to the farmers' markets for tomatoes and eggs and goats milk and pickles and pecans and salsa and sunflower seed butter and jars of honey, as they complain and drag their feet because Gramma always stands around talking to people for like an HOUR
and we will say "When I was YOUR age, fruits and vegetables came from a supermarket and they were bred to get shipped 1000 miles in a truck and sit on shelves for weeks, and they tasted so sour and watery it was like eating paper compared to these ones. It wasn't even legal in some places to grow your own food"
and they will roll their eyes like yeah yeah just because everything was miserable in the 20s doesn't mean I have to have a smile on my face standing in the hot sun while you listen to that one guy talk about his bees FOREVER
But they will go, because there might be baby goats.
Since I made this post, dozens and dozens of people have left tags telling me that it was the first thing today that made them want to continue living, that it was the first thing that made them consider that they might be okay years in the future, that they might grow old, that it was the first and only post of its kind they'd ever seenβthe first post that boldly predicts a future where we make it.
And many other people have been just spitting, foaming at the mouth fucking FURIOUS. How dare I have the audacity to imagine a future where things get better?
Don't I know how BAD things are? Am I not aware of the TERROR and DEVASTATION of climate change and fascism and biodiversity loss? How dare someone be so bold, so callous, as to imagine something other than misery and suicide. How dare someone suggest it will get better. How dare a person propose that there is a future where we will be okay, in the face of so much terror. Hasn't she seen the abyss opening its jaws before us?
Well? What do you think?
Do you think I've seen the abyss?
the idea that there is hope for the future is the only way we have this kind of future.
there were kids who stayed inside because of the black plague and went on to help cure it.
there were women who sat at home and cleaned the house and dreamt up a world where they could vote and have jobs.
there were kids in the mines who thought up a life outside of it. there were children who hid in annexes and wrote a diary where they prayed for a future without a terrible man in control
there were slaves who wanted freedom so badly and had hope that it would get better
there were gay people who hid in the corners of clubs and fought back for a future where they could walk down the street together
do you know what all of that has in common? they had hope that things would get better and they made that change. they looked at the world in its cruel ways and fought back.
so now, there are kids and teenagers and young adults and new adults who dream of a world so beautiful and the only amazon their grandchildren know is the rainforest
and it is in everything we do that we find this hope. wishing on dandelions, counting the stars, making our own clothes out of crochet or knit or sewing it, watching the sunset, going to the farmerβs market, feeding the birds, planting seeds.
step by step, we dream up, like our ancestors before us, a beautiful world

so in the uk you will be ably to apply to join the army at 17 but not use your phone after 8:30pm. that makes sense
um actually you can join the army at 16
but you need your mum to write you a permission slip
i have a suggestion
Also sorry to bang on but aside from all else THIS IS CHRONONORMATIVITY IN ACTION.
Your culture assumes that you wake up around 7am, get to work or school between 8-9, finish work between 3-6, then start to "wind down" for bed between 8-10, before going to bed between 10-midnight. It's visible in old social norms like "Don't ring someone at home after 9pm unless it's an emergency", in ideas like the Watershed, and the whole social norm that texting someone "late at night" automatically means romantic or sexual intent, or specifically poor impulse control (all the jokes that hinge on "scrolling at 2am" being specifically dysfunctional, moreso than scrolling in the afternoon etc)... And now the government wants to further enforce that cultural norm on individuals.
Its also an absurd level of control. The *government* is gonna decide what you do with your time at home at night?
Like firstly on its own thats absurd and horrific and torturous and a hideous precedent to set on level of control thats acceptable. I hate it on every level. If people want to "scroll" - whatever that means on gaming apps?? - thats their business.
And what next, the lights dont turn on after hours? The internet doesnt work after hours? Its not the governments responsibility to police teens nighttime activities its just not.
Second, what about people using the internet and such for homework? Sorry teacher I couldnt finish the government shut down my access. I mean if it lessened homework that itself wouldnt be a bad thing.
But there are a million other reasons someone might be online/on social media/gaming/reading the news/looking at art/ "scrolling" at any hour and thats their business!
Its hard enough being a teen to begin with, theres no third spaces, theres nothing to do, people complain if you do gather in public, thr main freedom they have is being online bc even their physical location is tracked to the minute by their parents, thr gov wants to keep restricting things, and what exactly are they offering in return? Building community centres where people can socialise in person and idk exercise and breathe? Social support services for people who arent getting what they need? Mental health services?
If I was a teen rn Id be furious all the time. You cant just keep taking away what people have to cope without replacing it with better methods, and regardless you cant replace autonomy. The right to do whatever the fuck you want in your own home at 2am. Before I had a phone Id read physical books and when I was trying to do things "properly" and "just go to sleep" I was bored out of my skull for hours.
okay i have to show everyone my favorite tiktok.
you donβt understand. i could recite this from memory.
I couldn't find an official translation so forgive me but it says
"Sometimes we have to look at things that aren't cute and make us uncomfortable."
"Because I don't really understand it."
"Because it has nothing to do with me."
"Because it just feels unpleasant."
"If we keep turning a blind eye like that until we can't see anything anymore, then eventually even the cute things will disappear."
Shoot your shot guys, if they're the one it'll work
