For this prompt...it's a merch haul!!! On the Cheritz market wesbite, they only have merch for Mystic Messenger and The Ssum, which there is a lot of to be honest and it really does make me jealous...and it makes it seem like there's no merch for Dandelion or Nameless. But that's wrong! I mean...it's difficult to find, don't get me wrong. But it exists!
In terms of Nameless stuff, the coolest thing I've got is a physical copy of the game~~~ it doesn't actually look that cool at all, but some of the art from the booklet that came with it is really pretty!!!
(Is Nameless a Tatty Teddy?)
And I also have a Nameless memo pad!!
@enchanted-twisted-dream though is my personal favourite source of Cheritz merchandise ;) at the time I'm writing this, it's currently empty, but their Etsy has provided me with 5 key charms of the Nameless boys, along with 3 different prints!!! ^^
HOWEVER, I wanted to highlight the Nameless Web Radio CD I have!!! Becaaaaauuuuse I have two of them! So in this post, I'd like to give it away to someone!! :3
This is what the case looks like! It's cute, small and slim but the case is broken, as in the 2 different...pages? Covers? Sleeves? Doors..? Of the case have fallen apart. But that should be the only damage and the CD itself should be fine :)
The web radio itself, which is also available on the Nameless website here, contains hours of content from the voice actors of Nameless talking about the making of the game, as well as a couple of short in-character scenes with the voice actors too! However, it is all in Korean...and I haven't found a translation anywhere yet...but you can get all this official content as a physical copy in this cute little disc :3
@lynettethemadscientist I did say that I could give it to you first, so if you like what you see I'll give it to you over anyone else, but if you don't like, then anyone else is free to shoot me a message and I will be selling it for Β£9 :)
@pianissimoforestcat submitted "You mentioned noting the progression of Cheritz through their games, Im interested in what you have to say about their development over their 4 games π" (Did you mean to send an ask?)
But oh my god that is SUCH a good question. I mentioned it in this post about Dandelion, and I actually meant it more in the context of the bad endings, but there is actually a lot to say in every other context of the franchise's development, which I'll talk about below the cut cuz obviously its gonna be full of spoilers (I never usually care for spoiler tagging, but there's new people on the tag, so this is exciting-)
So the context I meant it in was the progression of the bad ends, specifically how dark they can get. In that post, Chini was talking about how shocked and impacted she was by it, and from that I was thinking like "just wait til you get to Nameless", and that's why I said I was glad she was playing the games chronologically. Nameless is kind of a big step up from Dandelion in terms of how dark it can get, and then Mystic Messenger is a little bit darker in some aspects (though personally I'd say that Nameless is darker, but it just feels like Mystic Messenger can be more explicit. Like for example, both Nameless and MysMes contain the use of drugs, but Nameless' use of drugs is only implied, while MysMes actually talks about it out loud to the player more. They both cover the same topics: MysMes doesn't have to censor it, but Nameless' use of it just...feels darker. In some ways!)
I think most can agree though that Tei's character is a darker/more mature story than Jisoo's bad ending, and that's basically what I'm trying to say about that. Playing the games in order, especially blind, is a much better experience of Cheritz's games, as they kinda feel like they grow up with the player, and that the deeper you go into the games, the darker the topics you get to explore
I mean, Nameless' story doesn't even have to always have explicit/mature topics in them to make you feel like you're soul's being ripped out. The Cheritz games get more mature as they go on not just in terms of, like, yknow, age rating, but also just in terms of the emotions they make you feel. I remember how I felt when I played Another Story for the first time. The emotions I felt were so strong that they were one of the biggest reasons why I had to stop playing for a while. Unknown's/Ray's story was just too sad.
Anyway tho...I'm assuming you thought I meant about other contexts of Cheritz's development, like writing quality, and yeah there's plenty of stuff to say about that too
This isn't inherently something that says you're a good writer or not, but something that always comes to mind when I think about Cheritz's development is the characters' relationships with each other. In Dandelion, all the love interests are competing against each other; in Nameless, the boys don't all hate each other per se, but they don't really love each other either. Mystic Messenger (and this is my favourite aspect of the game) has characters who all have complex relationships with each other, outside of the protagonist. I really do like the character dynamics in Dandelion and Nameless, but there's something about a cast of love interests who genuinely like each other that in my opinion really shows good writing, especially of an otome game. Makes the characters feel way more real when they don't disappear without the player. Plus, good polyship fodder.
One thing tho that I don't like about MysMes and Ssum is that they sacrifice the main character's uhh character. Which is really disappointing because we already know that Cheritz is really good at writing protagonists. You could argue that they were only able to make such a fleshed out cast of love interests with complex relationships with each other because they sacrificed the main character, but Dandelion and Nameless proved that they can write three dimensional protagonists at the same time as having three dimensional love interests
A critique I often see about MysMes is that the game doesn't have enough romance, and the main character just acts as a therapist to the love interests and solves all their problems for them through the power of unconditional and often undeserved love. And I disagree with that argument on multiple bases: the reason that the main character acts as the LIs' therapist is because the main character has no character!!! I don't even like calling her a main character, cuz "main" implies that the story is about her. It isn't. It's about the boys and one girl that she can romance. It's kind of impossible for the game not to make everything about the LIs and have the MC act in that way when the MC isn't really even a character at all
Which, again, I'm gonna say isn't necessarily bad writing, and I know there's actually Lore reasons for why she doesn't have a character, but it's just. Certainly a choice. I don't so much mind it, it makes sense for the vibe of MysMes and Ssum's play styles, but if Cheritz releases another game, I'd really like for them to go back to making protagonists again, cuz I'm really getting tired of this blank MC.
They're also amazing at world building when they really want to be, and its the characters' complex relationships though that go hand in hand with that world building: all of the characters' relationships are directly tied to the world that Cheritz builds in each of their games. You know your world building is good when the characters would be massively different if you took them out of that world. What would Jihae and Jieun even be to each other if they weren't from Grass? If they weren't nobility? I mean, Eri's relationship to the dolls would be hugely different if they weren't dolls. That's how you know your characters really fit the world that you've built for them as well
Their stories have definitely become smaller and smaller tho I think. Small just referring to the world building tho, not in terms of actual length or anything. I mean like how in Dandelion they introduced this entirely new planet with new rules and magic systems and timeline shenanigans. In Nameless, they introduced the idea that dolls in the Cheritzverse have souls, but that only really has consequences when the Wizard gets involved, and the game centers on this ordinary girl - no royalty, no one in any particular position of power. Then MysMes focuses on this small group of mildly powerful people, again on a series of events that will kind of only affect them and a cult that was also started by one of their members. The only world/new rules they introduced was the cult really
And I don't think that's necessarily a good thing or a bad thing either, but it kinda means they get less ambitious as they go on. Usually, when you make a sequel to something, you expand on the universe of the story as you go. It just means there's less work for them: if you make lots of details for the world you're building, eventually you'll forget some of the rules cuz it's way too big to keep track of, and you'll end up creating plot holes where you didn't mean to
And plus. Getting less ambitious means being more likely to attract a wider audience. A mobile dating sim set in the real world, dating human people where the goal is to get to know some people while you prepare for a charity party is not that niche. A world where cats and rabbits are sentient, humanoid people with their own planet and society is way more niche. Dandelion and Nameless' premises can even be creepy in their own ways- a lot of people are scared of dolls. Not so much of human people tho
(The reason I haven't spoken much about Ssum yet is cuz I'm not as involved in that game as I am in the others, so I can't say much about something I don't know about. But the Jumin having a brother thing is kind of what I meant by creating plot holes when your world building gets too big cuz it slightly goes against his character for him to have a brother he doesn't mention in MysMes.)
I'm sorry that this got a little bit rambly word vomit kind of thing, but it's a bit of a broad subject, so I tried to dip my toe into as many different areas as I could since I wasn't sure what specifically you wanted to hear about
Please let me know your thoughts on what I said too, and let me know what kind of development you wanted to hear, whether character writing, maturity, romance, gameplay or even just real life meta kind of stuff like dlc/merch, controversy or attitude towards fanbase

Yesterday I got all sad, doing my thing of relentlessly checking the tags for people's submissions for CAW26 and I was all sad cuz no one had posted anything :( but then I realised I was stupid, cuz most other people live in America, so when they're looking at me posting 1 minute past midnight British time, they're probably thinking "why the hell are you posting your submission so early, it's not even tomorrow yet??" like an idiot
I'll be honest here, wasn't expecting the level of writing that Jisoo's bad ending gets to. Like it's been almost 24h since I saw it and I'm still kinda fucked up from it. Like they do straight up go, hey girls, be sure to go to school and keep your job and never let a man control your life trying to "protect you" because you will have no freedom and no support system to save yourself if that happens. In 2012 no less. God damn.
Yeah I actually had never seen the Dandelion bad endings apart from the Heejae one, so when I saw your post for the first time I had to go to YouTube and find out, and yeah π uh. Yeah.
I don't really wanna say too much cuz I don't wanna spoil anything, but you're DEFINITELY doing the right thing by playing the games in order of when they came out. I have more to say about the progression of Cheritz but I'll save that til after you've at least finished a couple of bad endings from Nameless
Some homemade pendants of my favorite Nameless boys!
Cheritz wonβt offer Nameless merch so my husband helped me make my own :) these are UV resin sealed! (We had to redo Lance 3 times to get his right T_T)
Spoiler under the cut!
This one isnβt resin sealed itβs just a little wearable picture frame :) A little something special for the first doll

Nameless ~The One Thing You Must Recall~
Red and Eri Swap!AU
(Red as the owner and Eri as one of the dolls)
The dolls are (of course) all sentai-style action figures
Red is a high-schooler who is somehow popular despite being a total chuunibyou
He always talks about how heβs a superhero that is destined to realize his powers one day and save the world
Most kids just play along because they find him endearing for some reason. A few kids actually believe him
Heβs great at sports but struggles with his studies. Partially because of his amnesia. He doesnβt remember anything from more than 3 years ago. He just woke up one day in the sprawling field of a nearby park. Next to him were 5 action figures
A kindly old man with no grandchildren happened to be walking by when Red woke up
For reasons he didnβt understand, Red was terrified of being taken to the police or the hospital and begged the old man not to turn him in
For reasons the old man didnβt quite understand, he assented and took Red in as his grandson
Grandpa named him Red for his crimson hair and eyes and enrolled him in high school
But after only a couple years, Grandpa died and now Red is completely alone.
Contrary to his loud talk about being special, Red is secretly very insecure. Heβs always had this innate sense of being different from everyone else. He feels misplaced, as if he doesnβt belong anywhere. So he rationalizes that being Special HAS to mean something, right? There must be a reason why he feels this rift between himself and the rest of the world.
Weirdly, the only relief he feels from his loneliness is when heβs with his dolls. He doesnβt dare talk about them or show them to anyone. But theyβre the reason why he crafted this delusion of being a superhero
What he doesnβt know is that his dolls have minds of their own. They canβt move and they donβt have any memories from more than 3 years ago either. But they know Red as well as he knows himself
One day he wakes up to find his dolls are gone and there are 4 guys and 1 girl in his kitchen
It doesnβt take long for them to figure out what happened. The question is, why? For as long as any of them knew, they had always been dolls and no one could understand why theyβd suddenly become as human as their owner
The former dolls are very mentally fragile. Oddly so. Yeonho with his fear of abandonment, Yuri with his difficulty parsing and expressing feelings, Tei with his desire to hurt the ones he cherishes due to feeling unworthy, Lance with his fear of disposability, and Eri with her gnawing feeling of being unloved. Each one of them is one harsh or ill-suited comment away from imploding. Red picks up on this immediately and although itβs a lot of weight to carry, heβs happy, eager even, to bear it. For the first time it feels like heβs doing exactly what heβs meant to.
The plot follows Red and his former dolls attending high school while Red juggles helping all of them identify and overcome their issues despite not being able to remember the traumas that caused them
However, this mission becomes increasingly difficult as Red begins to be plagued by nightmares and eventually hallucinations instigated by a mysterious doll he doesnβt recognize.
Backstory under the cut! (Idk why I'm hiding spoilers for a game that doesn't exist lol)
As the end of the game draws near, itβs revealed that Red was in fact a superhero in another world. He worked alongside Commander Tei, Yuri, Lance, Yeonho, Eri, and ??? to defeat evil villains. Red and ??? in particular were especially close; ??? was practically his little brother. And a very needy one at that
???βs power is an ability to teleport others by extending his arm and splaying his fingers
The supervillain they were fighting before the events of the game was called the Dollmaker. He has the power to turn anyone into a doll. And thatβs precisely what he did to most of Redβs team and was about to do to Red when ??? reached out in a desperate panic and threw them all as far as his powers could muster
The Dollmaker quickly turned ??? into a teddy bear so he would no longer have fingers
The rest of the team was haphazardly catapulted to a neighboring world and in the interdimensional tumble, lost their memories.
The Dollmaker, seething over the loss of his prey, decided to torture ???
Because the Dollmaker was keenly aware of ???'s attachment to Red, he designed the torture to be a cruel contrast to Red's power
He commissioned a fellow villain to submerge ??? into a hellish mindspace where he would be constantly assailed by feelings of despair, grief, and turmoil.
The only way to save anyone from that realm, is to call their name.
??? endured the torture for as long as he could. But over the course of a decade (from his perspective) he began to resent his teammates, especially Red, for forsaking him.
He wanted to drag Red in with him, to force him to feel the agony he experienced every day.
He had a desperate wish. And the wizard answered. The wizard blithely informed ??? about Red's pleasant albeit imperfect circumstances in the other world
??? wished for his mind to be linked to Red's. The wizard puzzled over how to accomplish this and came to the conclusion that restoring Red's teammates to their human forms might help restore his mind to a state more pliable to ???'s influence.
The closer Red gets to his friends, the more his powers activate and the more open his mind becomes to external connection
Because Redβs power is mind manipulation. He is inordinately charismatic bc he has a hypnotic effect on others. He normally used this power to modulate the emotions of his teammates, ensuring that even in the direst circumstances they could remain calm, determined, hopeful. He was the glue that held his team together.
And by the very end of the game, he'll discover that his mind manipulation powers even extend as far as to restore lost memories
Unfortunately I got back into Dandelion a bit too recently to get anything properly done in time, but here's some doodles for a classic swap AU cooking up in my head. Heejung being put in our world to earn the wish she made to the Wizard (while truthfully he just wants to torture her for fun). I need to come up with her Grass Kingdom name!!
Perhaps an excuse to dress up Heejung in cute outfits while hitting her with the fantasy angst hammer repeatedly. Since I cannot design outfits I mostly think of angst. Sorry Heejung </3
Obviously this is focused on Jiwoo/Heejung but like. Maybe there's other routes. She lives in their house.
This prompt was inspired by the Mystic Messenger character redesigns that I've seen!!! So I've just made some collages of outfits I think would suit the main characters of Nameless!!! ^^
Eri really likes the pink and cute kind of clothes. But Tei has styled her in a lot of ribbons and bows in a sort of ballerina style, so I thought she'd like quite frilly, cute clothes with bows :3
Lance, I feel like, prefers more practical and professional clothing, and I can definitely see him in a casual little polo, or wearing clothing with geometric shape patterns like diamonds or stripes. These looks are also inspired by the 'study aesthetic' idea too. If anyone else has seen The Inbetweeners, Lance kind of reminds me of Will a little bit, and I can see him wearing almost anything that Will does ngl
Yeonho I can see just so clearly in some kind of a 2020s alt TikTok look, whether kidcore or eboy or whatever. He's just got such a perfect little face for it. Something very softboy kind of thing. There's an outfit of mine specifically I have always associated with him, which is jeans (or denim shorts?) with a flower power kind of crop top that just says "love peace joy". I'm going to headcanon of him that if/when he ever gets his own room and gets access to a decent size wardrobe/personal storage, he would absolutely get into all this alternative kind of fashion ONLY because I personally want to dress him up in stuff like this myself-
For Yuri I actually wasn't too sure where to go, cuz he just doesn't seem like someone who'd be into much alt kind of fashion, and that's kind of the only fashion I know much about... I liked the above suit cuz he'd think it looks fancy and mature, and I like that top shirt too, mostly cuz of that belt and waist. But other than that, I like to think he'd enjoy some music-themed clothing? He'd think it was funny. And hell........maybe he would enjoy magical girl cosplay too lmao?
Tei feels like such an Autumn kind of a guy, very sweater heavy, very classy and mature but quite simplistic. I think the selling point about him is his personality and his face, so it's like he doesn't need to wear anything flashy in order to stand out. Like he'd look handsome in anything, so the plainer the better so it brings the attention to his face more. Plus, he's so.....cafecore......coffee and tea and stuff
RED though? Ok this is my favourite. His default outfit is purely, beautifully punk. I can ABSOLUTELY see him in the above punk outfits and that left one is him to a T. His stage outfit tho is also so pretty and when looking for that red Yuri suit, I stumbled upon the bottom right picture and OH MY GOD yes he'd love it. Especially the top right picture with the sword? It definitely makes him look like a prince who's come to rescue his princess. The one-sided capes are so cute for him, and it makes me think he'd love to have seen the Dandelion's outfits cuz he'd probably love all of them apart from Jiwoo's
Doing these on paper cause I suck, BUT!! I did a personality swap for Day 1! Lance and Yeon-ho both have that inherent fear of abandonment, though for different reasons. It's fun to think about how they would deal with it with just that switch. Desperation vs Harsh Acception. I wonder what their nicknames would be with them like this...

Ok so, I'm messing around with the first few weeks of the game to jot down stats and the like, and I wanted to point out my findings:
Between June 7th and June 8th in-game, you get the first cutscene that changes depending on your affection level with the animals. Heejung is having a stress nightmare about the pressure her mom and her peers put on her, and whoever you have the highest affection with will show up to comfort her.
Which like, cool. The game is changing to show you who you're closest with, that's standard dating sim procedure.
BUT since I was testing other stats outside of affection, everyone was at 0. I hadn't interacted with any of the animals at all.
I thought, okay, the game's gonna randomize me one. And so I go to the cutscene, Jiwoo shows up, and I'm super happy because obviously.
But then, I wonder to myself, hold on. IS this random?
And so I test. Maybe it's because my highest stat is femininity. So I try sleeping (skipping the day) from the beginning of the game until the cutscene. I try raising my art skills as the highest stat, then my beauty,, and dude
It's always Jiwoo. If any of the animals have even a slight edge percentage-wise, that's the one who'll show up (and it is percentage - if you have 3 points on Jiyeon and 2 on someone else, the other one will show up on the cutscene, because Jiyeon's max affection is always higher). But regardless of other stats, if everyone's at zero affection, Jiwoo will always show up to comfort Heejung.
Which makes it really funny when like two cutscenes later he says "I'M IGNORING HER" like my brother in christ you are canonically the most likely one to check on her when she's upset. He wasn't lying about being tsundere
Okay sorry this one isn't really that related to the prompt, cuz I was gonna actually record my audition for the role of Eri for an English dub of Nameless buuuuuuut I just don't really like my voice and how it sounded, and even if I did, I don't have the right equipment to edit it into a video anyway. So instead I'm just gonna talk about Tomodachi Life
Obviously I've put a bunch of Cheritz characters into my Tomodachi Island π because what else would I possibly do with this game. (And for some reason my Switch isn't letting me send screenshots so I had to manually take a picture of the Switch from my phone for these-)
We got these two being accurate to their characters,
and of course Yuri falls in love for Tei immediately upon meeting him
Red getting a bit meta and talking about His Own Voice Actor
And Tei also falls for Yuri!
But then Yuri forgets about Tei and falls for Eri instead!!!!!
Eri and Lance bond over an interesting hobby
And Yeonho and Nameless start fancying each other?
Nameless mate π are you joking-
But for some reason, Tumblr only let's me put 10 images on a post? So I'll reblog with the rest of this-
