Nameless ~The One Thing You Must Recall~
Superhero!Red x Villain!Cookie Girl AU Fic
A girl with long chestnut brown hair and bangs that concealed her right eye snickered to herself.
The thrill she felt was almost too much to bear. She was practically shivering with anticipation.
For some time now she had known that Red from her high school was the true identity of the red hero in the super team known as the Warriors of Justice. (Looking back now it all seems so obvious). And ever since then she had worked tirelessly to concoct a special elixir just for him. The adrenaline that coursed through her veins every time she thought of his radiant smile crumpling into a pitiful, helpless tremor was more than enough to keep her thoughts laser-focused.
In the lead-up to its completion, she had been gifting Red a package of a certain highly-sought-after brand of chocolate cookies every day, playing off her nerves as the jitters of a lovesick girl. But he didnโt even seem to notice that. So oblivious, she thought.
The day had finally come to begin the dosing. She had carefully opened the package of cookies and laced them with her custom concoction and resealed the package with a hair straightener.
The hand that held the altered cookies shook as she waited outside Redโs classroom. Her breath was heavy.
She stood like a statue as students poured from the classroom and parted around her.
This is it. I was destined for this.
As soon as Red came into view, laughing uproariously with his friends, a sinister grin appeared on her face. She hurriedly tried to adjust it into a more appropriate smile but a more observant hero surely would have noticed the odd strain at the corners of her mouth.
Her arm sharply and stiffly extended forward as Red approached. She kept her head down and tilted at an angle while her eyes gazed up at him through her bangs. She swallowed and prepared the sweetest voice she could muster.
โHere, take itโฆI brought it again.โ
โWow! Today again??โ he exclaimed.
He always seemed so surprised no matter how many times she did this.
โThank you!โ he said and beamed at her as he accepted the treat into his hand.
Her face abruptly flushed. Her breath stilled. She felt the urgent need to leave before all subtlety could give way.
โYouโre welcome.โ She managed to mutter before loping away.
Waves of enthusiasm coursed through her chest and down her arms. Her legs felt as though they might give out any moment.
She clumsily rushed to the empty gym, crossed it, burst into the warehouse and allowed herself to collapse to the floor under the weight of the thrill.
โFinallyโฆโ she panted, โItโs begun.โ Every rapid pump of her heart sent euphoria rippling through her body.
Her eyes fluttered and a half-smile played on her lips.
โI really need to compose myself,โ she whispered blithely, โIf Red attends my school then thereโs a good chance the rest of his teammates do too. And theyโre doubtless more observant than him.โ
She sighed. โWell it shouldnโt be much longer now. As long as he keeps taking the cookies it should only be a matter of weeks before heโs completely powerless,โ she giggled, โand then, theyโll all be powerless!โ Her giggles grew into a villainous cackle.
โOh ho~ Red, I see your admirer has come to call on you again. Cherry boys like you canโt afford to turn down pretty girls~. Why donโt you accept her feelings and invite her on a date?โ Yuri purred.
โHuh?โ Red turned his head to look at Yuri, the music teacher and secretly the black member of the Warriors of Justice. โWhat do you mean?โ
โThose cookies in your hand. That girl has been vying for your affections for weeks now. Surely you must have noticed how she looks at you~.โ
Red looks at the package in his hand. His fingers flex around it and it crinkles.
โYou think so?โ he asks.
โThe desire and trepidation in her expression are unmistakable~.โ
Red averts his eyes and scratches his cheek as Tei chimes in.
โIโm not sure about her. We should be cautious.โ
โOh donโt be so fussy, momma Tei,โ Yuri chides, โwhatโs the harm of young boys and girls falling in love?โ
Tei leered at Yuri but said nothing. Maybe she wasnโt a threat but she certainly was suspicious. He had more than a few times heard her utter phrases like โIโll show them allโ, โtheyโll cower before meโ, โthey wonโt be laughing anymore when Iโm done with themโ and erupting into fits of maniacal laughter when she thought she was alone. It was nothing substantial. Probably just childish daydreams. Maybe something from a TV show. But stillโฆ
Red couldnโt help but blush at the possibility that a girl had a crush on him. He was pretty popular with the guys but girls didnโt usually try to get his attention. Or maybe they did and he just didnโt notice, just like he hadnโt noticed cookie girl. He suddenly felt embarrassed. He didnโt even know the name of the girl who liked him enough to bring him his favorite kind of snack every day.
The villainous brunette sat in a far corner of the cafeteria alone, as usual. She silently traced over the evil plans written carefully in her notebook.
Most tacticians assume that the commander of the team should be dealt with first, and perhaps that is procedurally sound. But crushing the morale of an opponent is just as crippling, and so much more satisfying. No one can fight when their spirit is broken. And the morale of this particular team happens to be all tied up in one cheerful teen boy. Red is the linchpin. Once his powers are out of commission, the rest will falter. And seeing as he is the most naรฏve and oblivious of them; Red is the soft underbelly of the Warriors of Justice.
She flourished her pencil before adding
And soon he will be crushed by my hand
Hehehe. Iโm so clever. Iโll become the greatest supervillain of all time. Iโll fulfill my destiny. And Iโll do it without any powers, she smugly mused and smiled to herself and stared out the window, looking for Red. Where was he?, she wondered. Heโs usually out playing ball on the field during lunch.
โA-aโฆโ a familiar voice stammered above her.
She snapped her head in the direction of the voice. Her eyes flew wide open and she hurriedly slammed her notebook closed.
Red stood there awkwardly with his hand clutching the back of his head. He continued stammering and half-starting sentences, unsure of how to begin.
The girl froze and nerves raced through her body. She didnโt anticipate that Red would ever actually talk to her. Why? Nobody talks to her. (Unless they plan to jerk her around). Least of all one of the most popular guys in school.
โCan I sit with you?โ Red asked with a shy smile.
โOkโ she said flatly. Red sat down.
โSo uh- a friend told me that you giving me these cookies every day means you like me. Is that true?โ
There was only one correct answer here.
โYes.โ She tried to force a smile to at least look like she meant it, but she hadnโt practiced for this possibility at all.
โWow! Sorry it took me so long to realize. Would you- I mean, umโฆโ
While he fumbled for what to say, she took the opportunity to soften her shocked expression.
โActuallyโฆI donโt even know your name yet.โ He smiled sheepishly. โSorry.โ
She stared blankly at him for a moment for realizing that was meant to be a question.
โThatโs a great name!โ He said a little too excitedly and then tried to laugh it off before he continued.
โWell um- thereโs a cafe called Banjul that my friend works at. Would you like to go there after school? With me I mean.โ
Yeseo looked down at the table, panicking silently. I canโt say no. I need to keep up the ruse long enough for the serum to work.
โYes.โ She said plainly, still wracking her brain for references on how to react in this scenario.
โWow! Awesome!โ he practically jumped out of the chair. โIโm meeting the guys to play ball right now but see you then! So excited!โ
Yeseo was relieved to see him leave in a hurry, but the nerves remained.
She didnโt expect him to actually respond to her romantic overtures. She didnโt expect to go on a date with him. She certainly didnโt expect him to be soโฆnice? To me?
Yeseo allowed her head to fall onto her notebook.
How the heck am I going to carry out my evil plans now? I donโt know how to act on a date.
