Noel and Liam never stood together and sang into the same microphone and they certainly never put their arms around each other on stage. When he wasn't singing, Liam prowl around the stage, so the only way to get both of them in one picture during a performance was to take a photo when one walked past each other, usually from the side of the stage. I was always on the lookout for that moment. It often ended up being the shot used on the record or video cover.

Noel sat watching football. We—Phil, Liam, Terry, Steve, and others—chatted, drank beer in my small room. But things were brewing. Noel kept glancing at Liam. Finally, he had to let it out.

Noel: I'm sorry, but it's wrong to leather a fan. [Referring to Liam headbutting a 19-year-old boy in Brisbane, Australia and getting charged with assault.]

Liam: He wasn't a fan. Fuck he was. I was in the right and if I have to go down for it then I'll do it because I was right.

Noel: Oh, you were right, whacking someone? That's right, is it?

Liam: Yes, because he asked for it. And all I want is a fair trial and I don't think I'm going to get it.

Noel: So you're going to carry on whacking people?

Liam: No, I'll never do it again. I've learnt the hard way from this one.

Noel: So you're saying you'll never do it again?

Liam: No I won't. But I tell you what. That fucking geezer deserved it.

Later on:

Liam: You don't write for money. You write because you have to. You'll still be writing at 40. Fucking right you will.

Noel: Oh, you know that, do you? Know that for sure.

Liam: Yeah, I do.

Noel: Well, let me tell you, there is no way whatsoever I will be on stage at 40 years old, going, "You got to roll with it ..." No fucking way, man.

Liam: Nor will I, but we ain't talking about that.

Noel: What we talking about then?

Liam: Songwriting.

Noel: And you know about that, do you?

Liam: No, dickhead. We're talking about your songwriting and the fact that you'll be hammering away at it in the future.

Noel: I'll tell you what I'm going to do. What I'm going to do is make enough money so that I—we—never have to work again. Do you know what I'm going to do then? I'm going to get fat. I'm going to sit at home and watch TV and get enormous.

Liam: Yeah, but you'll still be writing songs.

Noel: Will I? How do you know?

Liam: I just do.

Noel: How?
