I love this.

In part because the reverse kinda actually happened with ancient human archeology once.

Back in the early 1900’s, a paleontologist digging around the Mediterranean kept finding the remains of Sicilian Dwarf elephants.

Well the dude looked at that, looked at Greek myths of cyclops, and pushed massively that the mythical one eyed giants must have been inspired by Mycenaeans/Ancient Greeks/ancient Sicilians finding these skulls, looking at the nose holes and going “My word! A giant eye socket!”

Creating the common urban legend today that cyclops were based on elephant skulls, where the nose hole was mistaken for an eye hole.

(That paleontologist then got put on blast by multiple professors of various fields of study afterwards. Including his own.)

(Reasons for why he was wrong ranged from long essays about the lack of supporting historical evidence, the prevalence of one eyed monsters across the globe without dwarf elephants, the actual birth defect known as Cyclopia, as well as a healthy dose of “ancient Mediterraneans knew wtf an elephant was Abel.”)

In conclusion: Yeah there’s probably MASSIVELY petty arguments between different Trappist paleontologists over what the “head holes” of their fossil specimens were for.

What makes this even better is that if Longarm brought home his humans it wouldn’t even resolve the argument but make it 1000x times worse.

And then there’s also some of them that are like ….hold on….were those mammals POSSIBLY not BALD??? All the reconstructions have them bald!

And that bullshit has no end because on one hand they definitely can use humans to understand their ancient mammals but on the other, those mammals were NOT humans, they were vaguely human-shaped!

Still, Trappian kids love Ancient Mammals the same way human kids love dinosaurs so if Shockwave and Blurr end up on Trappist then they’re instantly very famous and LOTS of tiny lobster-lizard-kids want to look at them:D Because those aren’t just dinosaurs Ancient Mammals! Those are ALIEN ANCIENT MAMMALS! OMG
