I will take any opportunity to complain about them making Luke follow the old Jedi Order’s rules about attachment and how it felt out of character that Luke would make Grogu choose between being a Jedi and his father
BUT there is a glimmer of some great characterisation in that scene
Luke could’ve hidden Din’s gift from Grogu. he could’ve trained him, believing that his father left him so that he could do this, to become what he was destined to be.
but he doesn’t.
he gives Grogu all the information. he gives him a choice. he gives him the opportunity to choose his father.
because I think Luke saw that Din came back for Grogu, and saw a man who loved his child so deeply. that it was an impossible task to ask a father to never see his child again. for a child to never see his father again.
and I think Luke thought about how his own father chose him, in the end. to see him with his own eyes. that he (and Leia) had lost so much time, not being chosen by their father.
Din doesn’t choose freedom. Din doesn’t choose power. Din doesn’t choose his old life. He chooses his son. Time and time again.
And how could Luke Skywalker deny a child his father?
am I crazy?
Luke succeeded because he disregarded the advice of his mentors twice; rescueing his friends and holding out hope that there was still good in his father
Luke succeeded because of his attachments and Vader was pulled from the Dark Side because of his attachment to his son (and lingering attachment to Padme)
without Palpatine's grooming, I doubt Anakin would've fully turned to the Dark Side just because of his attachments
so why is the old Jedi Council's "no attachment" rule still considered correct? when one of the plots in the prequels was the Council losing their way and connection to the Force and caring too much about politics? meaning they were flawed
and why is Luke, of all Jedi, continuing the no attachments rule with Grogu?
it feels like repeating the mistakes of the past and forgetting the lesson
I mean, Luke didn't cut ties with his sister or friends and was training his nephew (until he ran off but that's another issue)
NO EXACTLY
Luke’s LOVE is what saved the galaxy. His love for his mentors, and father, and his sister.
not to mention, didn’t the Jedi’s rules about attachment only become canon in the prequels? So it’s probably fair to assume that Luke didn’t know about the Jedi laws about it until meeting other survivors like Ahoska. and even then, yes he’s rebuilding this civilization essentially from the ground up, BUT why would he listen to that? Luke Skywalker, who destroyed the sith and the empire with literally the power of love? being told he needs to rebuild the Jedi on the principle of not having attachments?
fuck OFF
also did the prequels not show that the Jedi Council, while the “good guys” were still WRONG? it was their conservative views that pushed Anakin into the arms of the dark side, into Palpatine’s manipulation.
and while we’re at it ☝️ I’m not certain that Ahoska would push him into believing that either. I need to revisit Clone Wars bc it’s been a terribly long time since I watched it last, so I’m sure the trauma of enduring genocide and also just. growing up + having her mentor twisted by his attachments would change her views a great deal. but from what I remember of her character, it seems so counterintuitive to just have her go along with the old ways without questioning the merit
+ the aftermath
Dinluke Week 2026 (July 5th): The Mandalorian and Grogu Movie with Luke
Although it has been some time since their training, Grogu still calls on Luke Skywakller to aid him in rescuing Din Djarin. His attempts to bargain with the Hutts results in similar consequences, with the Jedi and Mandalorian being thrown into the depths of the Dragonsnake's home. This also means Grogu has an easier task of taking care of his Buir.

i come back from nearly a month of no dinluke art to offer you three, completely nonsensical out of context comics. this is the rebecca way. [ID in next reblog!]
you guys kinda of lost your pea picking minds over din in the flight uniform, so this is me bending to the will of my followers. horny jail for all of you. [ID: Din Djarin in the orange X Wing flight suit, with a pipe over his shoulder, standing with one hand on his hip. The background is pink and orange, like a romantic fantasy. Boba Fett looks on, saying "You look like a cop." Next to him, a flushed Luke is already unbuttoning his shirt, "Hey, Boba, you're gonna want to clear out really quick because I'm about to act. up." /END ID]
