Silly little headcanon that Steph’s grandfather’s (on her dad’s side) name is Stu Lauter. Yeah, that Stu.
When Ted dies, that kind of solidifies where Pete stands on his “I have never been better” and “I’m a shell of my former self” kind of attitudes that he switches between oh so often. He’s feeling great because school has never been this great. He has an amazing girlfriend, nobody bullies him for once, and he can walk the halls without fear. But his closest friends are dead, and that gets to him in moments where he isn’t preoccupied with talking to people or having fun with a group of other people.
Then, Ted “goes missing”. Except that’s not what happens, is it? People have been going missing in Hatchetfield for months now, even worse than the hyperbole “people go missing every day!” The disappearances were spaced out, as if somebody didn’t want to draw attention to what was happening. The victims were all men or boys…but there HAD to be some other pattern.
Pete is, believe it or not, less focused on finding the killer than Steph. Steph wants to do it for Pete, who has now retreated back into his shell. He’s still himself just…muted. He’s his happiest around Steph, though.
Steph is determined, though.
