Share this around. These Republicans are trying to ban people in NC from wearing masks, even for health reasons. Imagine a surgeon not being allowed to wear a mask while he operates on you. Imagine a child fighting cancer and comes across someone with active covid, but doesn't have a mask to save them from catching it. Imagine all the immunocompromised people, like my brothers with Cystic Fibrosis, who would die if they caught covid. It's absolutely absurd. It's infuriating. They're doing it for a political stunt to win over the anti-maskers, and to try to stop protests. They don't care if it literally kills people. It's repulsive. They're targeting people who are in fragile health, or don't want to risk the health of their loved ones. All for political points with right-wing extremists. It's one of the most irresponsible laws I've ever seen from a republican controlled state.
I pray Cooper vetos it, and the Supreme Court shuts it down before it can go into effect. If it passes, my family will have to figure out how to move to another state that isn't republican controlled, which would be unimaginable for us. We have too many roots here. It would be worst decision of our lives.
If this passes it could wreak havoc on the medical community in this state. We could see a jump in covid cases again. We could see a huge rise in deaths from people who are immunocompromised. It would be too dangerous for so many people to just go to the grocery store or go to work.
