I keep seeing people refer to Evan as suicidal and it’s really important to note: he’s not suicidal. Brennan specifically mentioned that he wasn’t— Evan is scared of life but that doesn’t mean he wants to die. It’s such an important distinction, especially for kids who had a tough life growing up. Kids who don’t know anything else but to be scared of life and keep living anyways.
At the heart of it all, Evan does want to live. He craves connection and belonging, and he’d do anything to support his friends. But he also knows what the reality of his day to day is. That his life was never scarier than it was in his apartment alone.
There’s a huge difference between wanting to kill yourself and being terrified to live.
