The Bannerthane spits flaming, boiling acid at dragonhide to break through the iron scales and access the meat within. Imagine what it can do to the poor, traveling merchant! This species inhabits open country, striding on long limbs. It is stiff both in body and attitude, as the Bannerthane believes that everything belongs to it: be it Wingrunner settlement, dragon lair, or a particular basking rock, all roads lead to the loud, gaudy Bannerthane, who wears its heraldry on its skin.
Happy World Saola Day!
World Saola Day is celebrated annually on July 9th to raise awareness for the saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis). Discovered in 1992, this elusive, antelope-like mammal is strictly native to the Annamite Mountains of Laos and Vietnam. Nicknamed the Asian "unicorn" due to its rarity, it is one of the most endangered large mammals on Earth.
The Asian "Unicorn":
•Discovery: First confirmed by science in 1992 after researchers identified unique horns in a hunter's home.
•Appearance: Striking white facial markings and two long, parallel horns that can reach up to 20 inches in length.
•Population Status: Critically endangered, with an estimated population of fewer than 100 remaining.
•Primary Threats: Habitat destruction, illegal logging, and indiscriminate poaching snares.
Conservation Efforts:
Conservation partnerships, such as those coordinated by the IUCN Saola Working Group and the Saola Foundation, actively work to protect the Annamite Mountains' biodiversity. Current programs focus on establishing the first-ever conservation breeding program to help secure the species' future.

Have a Great Day ☺️
Saw these Beautiful Dainty Sulphur (Nathalis iole) 🦋 & Silver Garden Orbweaver (Argiope argentata) 🕷 while walking to and from Volunteering at The Pet Project yesterday 😄
Happy International Gazelle Day! 😄
International Gazelle Day is observed on July 9, created to draw global attention to the rapid decline of these graceful antelopes. First proposed by conservationists under the Convention on Migratory Species in 2020, the day highlights the severe threats these animals face in the wild.
Why Gazelles Need Protecting:
•Habitat Loss: Human expansion, mining, and overgrazing constantly shrink the open plains and savannas they rely on.
•Poaching & Conflict: Ongoing civil conflicts, particularly in Africa, and illegal hunting severely threaten already vulnerable species.
•Endangered Status: Many species-such as the critically endangered Dama gazelle-have seen wild populations drop to just a few hundred individuals.
Fascinating Gazelle Facts:
•Incredible Speed: They are built for extreme endurance, reaching speeds up to 60 km/h to outrun predators.
•High Leaps: They are famous for "stotting"-bouncing straight up into the air (often over 3 meters) to spot danger or show off their fitness.
•Drought Survival: They are highly adapted to desert and semi-arid climates, often sourcing most of their hydration directly from the plants they eat.
•Ecosystem Role: As a crucial part of the food web, they help shape the vegetation in African savannas and Asian steppes.

And each time it gets called Gorgonopsid 😅
You can definitely see a huge jump in accuracy from Primeval to Surviving Earth ☺️
Inostrancevia is an extinct genus of large carnivorous therapsids which lived during the Late Permian in what is now European Russia and Southern Africa. The first-known fossils of this gorgonopsian were discovered in the context of a long series of excavations carried out from 1899 to 1914 in the Northern Dvina, Russia. (Source: Wikipedia)

Just got done watching Surviving Earth Episode 1 - "When the Earth Burned"
I finally found NBC 😊😄
Honestly, I liked it a lot ☺️
I think the animals were well animated and their portrayals were fairly accurate, though I fell like the Rival Inostrancevia was a little too focused on that particular family of Gorgons for a little too long, realistically.
The young Inostrancevia was rather adorable ☺️
The part were the Elph was playing dead made me chuckle a little bit 🤣 . I noticed their behavior seems to be inspired by Prairie Dogs, just like in Walking with Monsters (which was also made by Impossible Pictures).
The use of Protopterosaurus, a speculative/fictionalized Pterosaur ancestor, reminds me of the Protomosasaurus from Amazing DinoWorld. Kinda weird they didn't use a real species from that middle Triassic. Personally, I would've skipped the pterosaurs and showcased a descendant of the surviving dicynodont's from the earlier Permian, probably something like Kannemeyeria or Dinodontosaurus.
I like how the Great Dying isn't portrayed as just one big volcanic explosion, but a slow death caused by the release of carbon dioxide and other toxic gasses from the siberian traps (and other volcanos) causing global warming and the destruction of the ozone layer causing extinctions even before the big eruption we all know.
The Elph were by far my favorite animals from this episode, followed by Suminia and then the Dongusuchus.
I like how at the end when talking about The 6th Mass Extinction and modern day Climate Change & Global Warming they don't just say Land/Tree Forests are the only carbon sink, they also mention Sea Grass Meadows (and oceans in general) as well as Peat Bogs.
Overall, i give this a 8.5/10. I highly recommend checking it out. You can find it on NBC and Peacock.
I highly recommend checking out Dino Guy's Review on YouTube. It's definitely more in-depth, especially in terms of the science.
I'm also excited to hear Unnatural History Channel's thoughts on Surviving Earth (assuming he makes a video on it)
I wanna thank Tim Haines & Impossible Pictures Productions/Loud Minds TV for creating this Beautiful series.
"How do I commission you?" Since I've noticed an uptick of folks asking me about commissions, I've taken the time to set up my Vgen!
Check out Ryvn's commissions and portfolio! | Paleo-illustrator I specialize in primarily dinosaurs! This profile is a work in progress ...
If you're interested in any commissions from me (like the one above) feel free to check it out :) Prior to Vgen I used discord for commissions and that got very disorganized, very quickly. It was very easy to lose track of who commissioned me and what, so this will help me out a ton in regards to organization and communication T_T
An international team of scientists led by Dr. Graciela Delvene of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (CSIC) has uncovered the old
An international team of scientists led by Dr. Graciela Delvene of the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (CSIC) has uncovered the oldest known evidence of maternal care in shellfish, revealing that some freshwater species were protecting and incubating their young more than 125 million years ago. Published today in Scientific Reports, the new research found fossilized soft tissues preserved inside ancient shells. This is a remarkable discovery because such tissues normally decay soon after an animal dies. Among these tissues were microscopic embryos and larvae preserved within the gills.
