From the archive: Diana’s work inspired by Ricardo Cavolo, which shows her hopes and dreams ‘tattooed’ on an outline of her head. The stairs on the neck represent the number of years before Diana can finish school and become an engineer.

The Castle Art crew has finished the Ricardo Cavolo mural! Huge thanks to Ricardo for creating such an amazing personalized work of art!Â
Nisreen paints a canvas about Madaya, a town in Syria that has repeatedly suffered from starvation due to the war and a lack of viable aid routes. Nisreen depicts a father painting food on the table because they have none to eat.Â
The Castle Art crew were so excited to receive these gifts from famous Spanish street artist, Ricardo Cavolo. Inspired by his work, the children have been incorporating his style into their own work for over a year now. Stay tuned for an exclusive Castle Art mural designed by Cavolo himself!Â

The Castle Art crew welcomes spring with an original Deanna cartoon and a mural of floating flowers in the works!
This week, Castle Art switched gears to a workshop on drawing depth perception led by our very own volunteer artist, Glenn Field. Stay tuned to see the lesson incorporated into our next mural in the former Saddam Hussein prison.Â
The Castle Art crew gives life to a donated storybook scene. The book, torn and tattered, shows children on sailboats. The Castle Art team has lost a lot of family and friends to the dangerous sea routes to Europe. According to a UNHCR report more than 300,000 refugees have fled to Europe already this year.Â
Having completed the first floor of the former Saddam Hussein prison camp, Deana and Hamidah paint an evocative portrait mural on the second floor. Imagine climbing up a dim cement staircase to be greeted by this... Â
Children get to put aside the stark realities of refugee life and dive into a world of colour as a form of therapy.
Awesome report and writeup on the positive effects of Castle Art by Al Jazeera English. Huge thanks to Mohammed Jamjoon for coming out!

The Castle Art process in action. From drawings and discussion to team-work on the paints. Beautiful work last week. Original drawings done by Naya and Newroz. Naya and her family have recently left for Germany, like so many others, and Newroz’s family decided to return to Syria. Very difficult decisions for families to make.Â
