So, before Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the movie, there was Who Censored Roger Rabbit, the book.

Dominic Noble on youtube has you covered with a compare and contrast between the two if you'd like the cliffnotes. Others will give you several hours. I'm not digging up links go find em if you want em.

But the glow up on Jessica is something that makes the line "I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way." Hit like when she slapped Valiant across the face.

In the book, Jessica is a gold digging girlfriend of a mobster, and due to certain non consensual magic shinanigans found herself suddenly in love with Roger, left the mobster, had a runaway wedding, and adored him for exactly one year before leaving him in a sudden divorce and running straight back to her old life.

The author of Who Censored Roger Rabbit likes the film better, and feels its the better story for his characters. Different circumstances where Jessica got to choose to love that silly lil rabbit, and Roger really is okay if he's never the #1 star in town. He's Jessica's #1, and that's all he needs. No force, no accidental magic roofies that last exactly 1 calendar year because of a wish on a genie's lap, and also no refutation of Jessica's og backstory where she was a sexworker. Toons were photographed to make comics, and in the book couldn't verbally speak but a silent paper text bubble would pop up that frequently annoyed humans when walking thru the remains of another's conversation. The way she's drawn, she probably gets paid better now that she doesn't have to pose for one frame at a time, 7 frames per page, and a penny a page if she was lucky. The headline gig at the club? Sister is making BANK, in a loving marriage, and sees herself as more than her shape and reputation and HAS AGENCY. And SHE HAS LIL FUCK UPS, but they're not cataatrophic but rather a speed bump that chains over to the next plot point and AAAH sorry I love this movie.

Seeing Jessica's older rendition made me hear another layer in that line. A girl whose been to hell and done it all, and came back alive. Some people love her for all the wrong reasons, some folk will never meet her because of how she looks. Every glance toward or away is a judgement, and she Fucking Glides Over It Like They Ain't Even There when she marches outta the detective office.

denny whining weak and pitiful into the pillow as owner gropes and pets at his dripping cunt, humping his hips back to try and get more, fists curling lightly in the sheets as he pants, gasps, moans the cutest little 'unnh—'s and nearly unintelligible 'please, daddy—'s as he's toyed with, owner pushing two fingers into his dripping hole, lazily pumping and curling to watch his boy twitch and squirm.

Robby’s got at least 3 different colognes in his daily rotation that Dennis can tell are expensive by how heavy they are and how small the bottles are. Jack uses something with a ship on the bottle he gets at an mall kiosk that Robby said used to make his nose hairs curl. Dennis likes it-musky and manly, practical- Jack in a bottle. (not to say Jack doesn’t own a nice cologne, Robby buys him a new bottle whenever it runs out. It’s the one thing he lets Robby buy.) Dennis used to use Axe but now uses Cremo after Robby’s very gentle but firm boundary that an Axe body spray would never cross the Robinavitch-Abbot threshold.

Robby has an assortment of expensive olive oils and vinegars and spices for when he’s cooking he buys specially in store so he can sample them and smell them. Jack and Dennis have a stash of log cabin maple syrup behind the 5 gallon buckets they store their rice and beans and flour in.

Robby’s got a liquor cabinet with whiskey older than Dennis inside. Jack has a bottle of Jack Daniel’s in the freezer next to Dennis’s Pink Whitney.

Old, almost falling apart sweatpants that never once hugged his ass but are now certainly doing nothing to flatter his rear.

Robby's back all shrimped up there is a reason he has such back pain all the time as he stands at the kitchen counter, hunched over the cup of coffee in his hand.

His hair is a mess, the tufts of brown he had left standing up left and right, mirroring the sleepy look on his face.

He yawns, rubbing his eyes as he turns to find Jack Abbot leaning against the doorframe of their bedroom, staring at him with so much love and affection, that he can't help but avert his eyes, knowing what would follow.

"Don't you dare say it, Abbot."

"Marry me?"
