Game Style: This game is a unique, homebrewed setting that can cross genres (though all will still be mid to high fantasy-flavored) and go to the bounds of what is standard. I like to think, anyway. The game will be heavily roleplay focused and focus on cinematic scenes, emotional storytelling, making connections, and having fun.
Touchstones: Due to the genre-crossing nature of this game, touchstones are hard to identify! But some for the overarching story include - The Abhorsen Chronicles (Garth Nix), Shakespearean works, D.Gray-man, The Name of the Wind (Patrick Rothfuss), Granblue Fantasy
This story began in the dark.
You are all in this darkness for an unknown stretch of time. It could be one second, one minute, one hour, one day, one year. It all feels the same, for just as your sight and touch have been taken, so has your sense of time. The moments feel stretched, and the moments feel squished, and there are many moments, and there are no moments at all.
Before you begin to feel as if all is lost, howeverâthe moment you begin thinking of your home, of how different it is to this allâa bright pinprick of light begins in the distance. At first, this light is far, far awayâor maybe itâs just small? No, itâs far away, youâre certain of it.
You walk towards this light. Itâs the only other thing here, after all. The warmth is sweltering. But you can only walk, driven by either curiosity or desperation or both. The light never gets closerâitâs always just out of your reach.
You hear a voice, calm and melodic and coming from the light, say to you: âYour story shall begin in the light.â
In the next moment, you push open a door to a tavern, as if thatâs what youâd been intending to do from the start.

Premise
âI have summoned the group of you because you must do something for me that I cannot. You see, I cannot leave the Library, and neither can my assistants, wherever theyâve gone off to⊠Iâll introduce you later.
âYou will form a party with one another, and you will travel to various worlds that connect to the Library, and you will retrieve something in those worlds for me. ButâI digress, for we have to make sure you lot can work together first. Sooo\~ooo, letâs do some ice-breakers.â
Welcome to the Library at the End of the Universe! You and several others got really lucky, having been selected by a mysterious man named the âLibrarianâ in order to do his bidding⊠Er, I meant, complete some tasks for him and save the entire universe!
The grand and sprawling nexus that is the âLibrary at the End of the Universeâ preserves the histories, present times, and futures of all known and yet unknown worlds. However, a villainous group named the Company of Seers intends to upset the natural balance of the universeâthey seek items called the âEyes of Providence,â which will grant them great power. Their Leader intends to use them for nefarious purposes, of course. Itâs up to you random fellows to go and grab these ancient artefacts, carefully hidden away in each world long, long ago, before the opposing neâer-do-wells get them instead.
Unable to return to your home worldsâor âBooks,â one should sayâwithout completing these tasks, the unlikely heroes are forced to band together⊠but is there more to this âStoryâ than meets the âEyeâ?

Please help me. Iâm a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but I like making friends with anyone, provided you also like making friends with everyone (i.e., no bigots of any kind!). My favorite game series is Drakenier, though I also love other JRPGs a lot too.
Expectations & Explanations
The setting of the âLibraryâ is very flexible: It is essentially a story reliant on the multiverse. Here are some things that you should know, that will be talked about either beforehand or explained by the Librarian himself in the first session:
You have been summoned by a mysterious being named the Librarian. He wants you to go and find some things before the world is destroyed by some bad guys.
The Library is connected to every conceivable universe via their âBooks.â Yes, even your characterâs.
No, you cannot go home just yet.
Unbeknownst to the characters themselves, there is one of those things you have to retrieve located in their home worlds.
The party will go to their home worlds, after some unaffiliated worlds as warm-up, in order to retrieve it, possibly changing the fate of their world or solving a large-scale conflict theyâd never dreamed of doing before.
Because of the nature of this setting, your characterâs own world, history, goals, family, background, friends, culture, religion, everything can be anything.
No, you will not be required to write thousands of words of worldbuilding. You can give me only a few paragraphs of backstory and I can do that for you. (Though you should read about the Knife Theory to give me a head start.)
There will be side-quests to do in between âBooksâ.
Roleplaying, having fun, and crafting a great story are the PRIME goals, and everything else will be in service of this. But, of course, there will be lots of puzzles, mysteries, and combat encounters that will help aid us in this endeavor.
This is a really lore heavy game. Players that are observant, take notes, engage with the world, etc will be rewarded greatly!
I am here to tell a storyâbut tell a story with you. I do not adhere to âPlayer vs. GMâ at all. The story isnât even fully set in stone. Your actions, or lack thereof, will affect the outcomes of a lot of things! You will be asked to fill in lore, describe NPCs, and so on, even not in the "Book" your character is from!
I have been trying to get this particular game running for some time, so Iâve set some expectations found below. You should keep the following in mind when you fill out the application:
This campaign will last at minimum one (1) year. Please only join if you can be sure you can commit at least two years to playing regularly.
FoundryVTT will be the VTT of choice. Itâs okay if youâve never used it. It is NOT mobile friendly.
There is a mandatory Trial One-shot, the exact date of which will be selected once all slots are filled; this is to make sure we all work and play well together. You will use characters that you intend to play in the campaign to do this. Character creation can be done on any platform if you are not available at a time where you can enter it into Foundry (I will enter it manually for you).
After the one-shot, we will have a real Session 0, where weâll go over campaign expectations, playing styles, things to watch out for, and so on. This could possibly take place at the end of the one-shot or via text in Discord.
If you decide you didnât like the character you chose for the one-shot and donât want to play them in the campaign, you can change them any time between end of the one-shot and proper Session 1. Let me know ahead of time if you want to do this!
You have to be at least 21 at the time we start playing. Not that there will be anything particularly dark, but for the sake of my own comfort! Sorry; hope all the younginâs can find their forever DM. You should also put your favorite beverage in the "Other thoughts..." question in the form to ensure you've read this all.
Regarding punctuality and absences: Please be either on time or a little earlier (~10 min) to each session. If you canât make a session, please try and give ample notice in advance (preferably a week or earlier). Many missed sessions will result in removal from the game, and I donât want to do that. :(
Please be respectful. No bigotry, no pent-up aggression, no taking out bad days on other people. We are here to play with dolls and do math. This includes being respectful of other peopleâs time. Please communicate clearly with others if you have a problem; failing that, my doors are always open to try and solve something.
Relatedly, we are strictly LGBT friendly. If you dislike LGBT people in any way, you need not apply please. We are also POC-friendly! Same rule applies.
New players ARE welcome. However, you will have to at least know the basics of play. Please read up on the rules of combat, social encounters, character sheets, duality dice, etc! I am happy to teach, but you should also be putting in the effort to learn!

I was talking about this with a friend but a really interesting cultural shift over the last ohhhhhh ten years maybe is that many people in fandoms view themselves as stakeholders and not audience members. Because of that, they think that the fandom should be running things, or at least have an acknowledged say in how something is run.
