Sam had a death grip on the swinging trailer door. The grappling hook attached to the driverless Honda Civic in front of you was lodged through the door into the inside of the trailer, sending the car on and off the road with each swing. You couldn’t get close enough to Sam without the threat of Sam’s car knocking you off the road. Every possibility went through your head. But every second you spent pondering the consequences was another second that Sam’s life was in peril. You couldn’t sit in the car and watch any longer.

Without a hint of hesitation, you reached in your glove box to pull out your pocketknife. You took off your seatbelt with your foot still on the accelerator and knee underneath the steering wheel to keep it steady. You slid down the window, the wind crashing into your face with a huge gust, and shoved the small knife into your pocket.

“What the hell are you doing?” Steve asked.

“Take the wheel,” you dictated.

“Are you fucking insane?”
