A/N: I've been gone a while (again). I'm trying my hand at writing for different anime shows I've watched in the past few months. This current one I've written was for practice since I've realized I'm very rusty. I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep this up since this is just a break from studying for my licensing exam for me. But I hope you guys enjoy!
“Ouch, Y/N! It burns!” Kuroo yelped as you applied an alcohol pad to clean his scraped-up, bloody knee.
“You wouldn’t be in this situation if you would put on your damn knee pads,” you scolded your boyfriend. You’ve told him repeatedly to put on his knee pads during the game to protect his knees from floor burn every time he dove for a receive. Every time, he would dismiss your concern saying that they got in his way during his blocks.
This floor burn was worse than any other one he had. He made an incredible diving receive keeping the ball in play; however, the sound of skin meeting the hardwood was audible. Nekoma was about to continue with their play until the sound of a blaring whistle halted the game. The players looked on in confusion until Yaku spoke up. “Kuroo, you idiot, you’re bleeding all over the court!” The referee paused the game until the court could be cleaned while Kuroo was substituted out, much to his chagrin, to get his injury cleaned up.
“Would you stop squirming around like a toddler?” you reprimanded, “You can’t go back in until this is cleaned up, so you need to chill out,”
With a huff and a cross of his arms, Kuroo stopped his movements to focus on the game. Nekoma was up by one set and rallying to take the match. But the team was starting to lose momentum in Kuroo’s absence with their defenses weakened. The intensity of the game and Kuroo’s impatient toe-tapping made it hard to wrap the bandage around his knee, but you managed to finish.
“Alright, Kuroo. I’m done,” you said. You reached for his bag and pulled out one of his knee pads. “You have to put these on, or you’re sitting out for the rest of the match,”
Kuroo looked at the scoreboard. The team was losing. They couldn’t afford for him to sit out anymore if they wanted to win the match. He gave a defeated sigh and took the knee pads from your hand and put them on. You glanced at Coach Nekomata as he nodded in your direction. You gave him a thumbs up in response. Before Kuroo could return to his spot with the rest of his benched teammates, you smiled at him in the hope of turning his disheartened mood around.
“You’re not out of this game yet. Do what you do best, captain, and block those spikes,”
Kuroo smirked, “I thought what I did best was provoke,”
“Yeah, that too, but mostly win this game,”
