I feel like people justifying the way peoples’ nsfw side accounts being spread in callouts & such as “Well, sharing that stuff on the internet means it was public anyways!” is sort of the same logic as going to a kink dungeon just to find someone you dislike and taking pictures of them to show others. Like, just because you found the information doesn’t mean it’s morally good/neutral to share. Sexual harassment is so normalized online in the name of Justice, idk
I salute the flag.
"but I didnt learn about the usa's wrongs in school 😢 we don't know anything cause they didn't teach us anything 😢" well no one in my school in india told me that our country is a regionally hegemonic war criminal you're just entitled and insultingly uncurious
in fact they told us completely propagandised nonsense about how pre colonial hindu kingdoms were extremely peaceful but were forced to defend themselves against regular invasions solely by muslims. this is something v easily contradicted by the foundational story of ashoka's turn to buddhist dhamma being the brutality of the kalinga war.
the point being made is school, everywhere in the world is a deeply political project and is marshalled for the purpose of nation building. you're not going to hear about the sins of your nation in any serious way at school most anywhere in the world, and expecting that it should have betrays a certain lack of uhh, street smarts. its for children and run by the govt.

TIL “Yankee Doodle” was written by the British to mock americans. “Doodle” is thought to come from the German “dödel”, meaning “fool” or “simpleton” and “macaroni,” a flamboyantly stylish type of dress, painting the Yankees as morons who thought placing a feather in one’s cap made them a “dandy.”
via reddit.com
so you’re telling me that “stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni” would be like saying “wrote a G on his belt and called it gucci”
that’s…a pretty good analogy actually
US moron came to town
Hunting for some coochie
Wrote a G up on his belt
And this bitch called it Gucci
Seeing my notifications get flooded with this every July 4th is the only thing I respect about America
im so used to tumblr that i forgot some troglodytes on reddit wouldnt be even surface level familiar with the concept of the robot lesbian
OP: How to fold a paper bat plane with flappable wings (cr到车请故意,唛大叔)
the thing about piracy is that i know i deserve everything for free forever
I think the main disconnect between teenagers and people who pass laws to get them banned from social media is that most adults in those positions have NO IDEA how ingrained social media is in day to day life.
It’s a news source for many teenagers. It’s a safe space for kids in dangerous situations AND it can be used to help those kids alert people to their situation. It’s a way to talk to people you live far from. It’s a place to be creative. It’s a place to share ideas and experiences with your peers. For some kids, it’s the only thing that they have real control over or privacy in.
Yes, there are risks, but that’s why you teach internet safety! And I keep seeing this talk about “at least kids will go outside again!!”
Go outside…where? Genuinely, where the hell are we supposed to go? Most stores and restaurants are actively hostile towards teens, everything costs money we don’t have, and even just sitting on a bench at a park will get you stink eyes from parents. Idkekosidosdoc idk you people piss me off
This is adultism
This conversation also makes me think of my cousin, who is a mennonite (Christian denomination, similar to Amish but a lot more lax).
Their community also encourages less internet usage, but they actually have alternatives. A lot of these children have jobs, their church is a large community that has frequent meetings during the week for youth. The place where my cousin lives is also a lot less hostile to pedestrians compared to where I live in my American state, with places like coffee shops, stores, and the library being walking distance. Not to mention that she can drive, and the community encourages teens having the independence to go places on their own and with other friends in the church community. I've spent a month at her place and she's told me that while I've been around has been the most she's spent on technology (because we watch things and play games together).
This is not to say that their community is a youth liberationist utopia or anything- FAR from it. There are a lot of problems with this community that I won't get into. But what I am saying is that when we have other options, children do care about things other than social media. Kids want to go outside. Kids want to do stuff outside of the internet. We want to hang out with friends and read and such. We're just so restricted.
And like you started off by saying, social media is ingrained into the life of most teenagers. It's taught me so much about the world and the options out there. It's helped me with my mental illness and self-destructive behaviors. It's helped me recognize that I'm an abuse victim. It's done so much for me, and so much for others.
Not to mention that the world is designed for us to fall back on the internet, even ignoring predatory algorithms. As stated, most of us can't go outside to places. When it comes to school/studying? We're told to use the internet and social media to help. Shopping (for those of us privileged enough to even have that option)? Your caretakers say "I don't wanna go, just do it online." Not to mention every transaction from your account, which is the only way to buy online, is sent to your parents. Want to order from the library? Parents can see everything you read from that too, so if you have pro-censorship parents, you're better off trying to find a copy online. Wanna talk to your friends? No you can't meet up with them, use whatsapp or discord or imessage or google message or google chat or Instagram or tiktok or anything on that damn phone because you're not allowed to leave the house. Etcetera.

i'm getting the sense some of you are not actually forklift certified.
well damn . egg on my face
THE PLOT THICKENS @averagejoey2000 explain yourself
I can't believe this is how I'm finding out that I got a scam forklift cert.
I took the cargo ops class at school but my teacher explained that it doesn't give a certification and I'd only be okay for ship's crane and the school forklifts. she said I could take an online exam and get my cert. I paid 60 bucks.
I'm googling and I'm seeing a lot of resources saying that the online programs cover the classroom part of the exam but not the in person practical aspect.
29 CFR 1910.178 (l)(2)(ii)
but I did the in person practical shit at school.
the back of the card even had fancy numbers on it. I couldn't have known that this isn't the one. this website sounded more official than certifyme.net, and there wasn't one with a .gov address.
so, I emailed OSHA, and they said that so long as I live and work in California, there's no such thing as forklift certification. I have to be told how to do it every time I get the job.
Update: I took a certification class in shipboard Material Handling Equipment at my federal job. *now* I'm forklift certified, but only on ships and piers and only for this company, but also rated to forklift explosives and hazardous materials. Also I'm a woman now.
