i love that shane's whole emotional experience of heated rivalry is just him being like why is he mean to me then nice to me then mean to me then nice to me then really nice to me then really mean to me then nice to me in a way that bewilders & disconcerts me so much it briefly turns me heterosexual. and then he's mean to me again. oh it's because he's scared. yay! i can work with scared. i intend to marry him

I know that when Ilya finally finds out that Shane had put on a suit before their first hook up he's gonna be insufferable about it he'll be like "Shane, kotenok, it's time to suit up we're gonna have sex"

Every time they go to have sex for the next ten weeks, Ilya pauses and Shane gets concerned by the look on his face until Ilya just says ‘uh. Shouldn’t you be wearing your suit’ and Shane nearly gets up and leaves the room (as a bit)

wait okay one more take. the thing about shane is that he is so so brave even when he is so so scared, and he throughout both books is always the one who, when it’s down to the wire, keeps making the decision to push past his fears and desire to stick to the status quo and propel his relationship with ilya forward. so when people try to dismiss his choice to get engaged/go public (even though he’s terrified of the potential consequences) + tell crowell to go fuck himself when he’s offered the chance to go back in the closet (even though this is his life’s work going up in flames) + leave a toxic and abusive work environment (even though he’s going to leave behind the team he’s been the star of for a decade)……. and claim that ilya orchestrated the whole thing……. well no. it was actually #mybraveshane who did all of that
