Electric Company Thoughtdump!
Well great. I’m heavily into the series now, and because of it, now you get a thoughtdump. (Courtesy of The Capitol.) /ref
To get things straight away, yes. I love The Pranksters with all the power invested in me. They’re honestly better than the main heroes and are more entertaining to watch. That, and with them getting their own game, the now defunct Prankster Planet, yeah. They’re winners alright.
Because I’m currently in a poetry unit in English Class, I’ve grown to associate them with a bunch of language arts terms. I dunno. You tell me.
Danny Rebus = Metonymy. Imo, it makes sense to me. His Rebus puzzles are sort of a literal take on Metonymy, as it defines itself as referring to something by using an associated thing to refer to it. (I.E. The Sword of Justice.)
Manny Spamboni = Litany. I always thought that Manny loves repetition, much like me. That, paired with his immense knowledge in robotics and technology, I’d suspect he’d love the art of Litany, basically meaning a poem that is structured like a list. (Because all the phrases start with the same thing.)
Annie Scrambler = Enjambment. Much like her power of her scramble stomp, I like to think that Annie has a soft spot for whenever a poem uses Enjambment. (That is, when a break is made in a line without punctuation, usually to make thoughts flow.) If Annie can scramble sentences with just the stomp of her foot, could she technically make run-on sentences purposefully for poetic use?
Francine Carruthers = Diacritics (and the marks.) Okay, so this isn’t technically a poetic device and moreover a language thing in general, but something tells me Francine is interested in how languages work in general. Why is English so inconsistent when it comes to letter sounds? How come the rest of the world uses diacritical marks to denote the various sounds of letters? I suppose when Francine isn’t being bossy, she’s being interested in Language!
I also blame The Pranksters for genuinely getting me interested in poetry and language in general. Thanks Pranksters! <333
Anyways, now onto UGH. The actual electric company.
I say this will full force, I do not like the main heroes in any way, shape, or form. Especially Hector, I honestly hate his guts. XD He always has to come out on top and he foils the pranksters’ plans. NOT ENTERTAINING… or really captivating for that matter.
Now, I’ll move onto some episodes. Guess it’s time for me to pick favorites.
I know Episode 1 of Season 1 was the pilot, but I always love a good exposition of characters in that form. The way we are introduced to everyone feels fun! ^^
Unmuffins will forever be a classic, despite the “it’s all a dream” plot. The moral implications are rather interesting too.
Revenge of the Zeroes is another good one to me. I’ve always found Zero a very interesting number in any context. Statistics, Algebra, Geometry, etc. also DANNY AND ANNIE’S SINGING IS AMAZING. BOTTOM TEXT.
Strangely, A Whole New Francine has a special place in my heart, as the first episode of the reboot I have watched. Francine was the first of the Pranksters to catch my eye, and eventually the others would follow.
Danny is the brawns, Manny is the brains, Annie is the beauty, and Francine is loyalty/subjugation. All qualities of The Loyal Three and Pecharunt from The Teal Mask DLC of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet. (This would thereby mean Danny is Okidogi, Manny is Munkidori, Annie is Fezandipiti, and Francine is Pecharunt.) In fact, I have a whole AU about Pecharunt coming to New York helping the pranksters out. Let me know if you want to see that!
I also headcanon The Pranksters’ headquarters resembles and feels like the original 70s Electric Company set in terms of design and aesthetic. They vastly loved the original better. (As did I too…)
Believe it or not, I also firmly believe after the events of the show, The Pranksters got their revenge once and for all. Defeating The Electric Company at the place it all started, The Diner.
As implied by the Prank Cam videos, I firmly believe The Pranksters are actually really good with teaching grammar and advanced concepts! If you ask to be taught, you shall receive.
