Amélie is the child of merchant and a seamtress (Adrien and Sybil Letailleur) who leads a rather normal, quiet life in the countryside until she starts having strange dreams. In them she wakes up as a porcelain doll, finding herself in a mountain palace where she meets what she assumes to be a figment of her imagination; a giant man asleep at his desk. She wakes him, startles him more than expected, and—doubtful that he’s truly awake himself since the alternative means she’s cursed—says he’s willing to help her break it if she can prove she’s real three times
Amélie finds herself dreaming of this place each night. Each night she finds the man, and each night she struggles to prove herself as more than an illusion; especially as she still believes he might be. One night she helps him. One night she’s angry. And one night she cries. The fifth night he decides to help, and they scour the palace archives for information
Nothing turns up. Amélie decides to try and break the curse herself, staying up for two more nights to keep herself from dreaming. By the time a courier arrives at her house she’s exhausted, and her and her family alike are stunned to receive a huge letter addressed to her carrying the seal of a Giant King. She’s been summoned, and her trip has already been arranged
From there her father tries to go with her and nearly does, but his ticket turns up missing when they’re already aboard the giant flying ship that was sent for them, and Amélie ends up going alone. She meets an elf named Nik who keeps her company in her father’s stead, and together they land in the giant’s kingdom in the sky, where they’re met by Kristoffer; the giant from her dreams, who’s very real and relieved to see them
This animatic is just a snippet of then reuniting, and I’m still messing around with the exact tone of it—but dang the fluffy option really got to me. I’m glad it did for more than just me ◝(˶˃ ᵕ ˂˶) ◜♡
