She’s oiling!

Sea Otters have a SERIOUS skincare routine. Or rather, hair care! They’re the only marine mammals without a thick layer of blubber, so in order to stay warm in the frigid waters of the Pacific, they have to keep their coat in perfect condition. They have the thickest fur in the animal kingdom… over a million hairs per square inch! (It is insanely soft.) Their skin never gets wet because they oil/clean/groom their coats so well that it repels the water. (On average, they spend about 5 hours a day grooming.) They also eat like 25% of their body weight in seafood every day to keep their energy and body mass up.
