Also, the lack of PASSION from them for each other, the Earth, humanity, and their friends is so unsettling. This is not the Crowley who shoved Aziraphale against a wall in s1 or the Aziraphale who was shaking and touching his lips after Crowley kissed him, or who giddily dragged him to the dance floor. Crowley spends so much of the series just pining and pining and trying to convince Aziraphale to run away with him and create something just for themselves. So why have Crowley suddenly wish for the opposite? With the flimsiest explanation possible? This is the biggest distinction from book!Aziracrow and why I think the ending translates so poorly. In the book, their cooperation and friendship stem from a shared love for humanity, but the show demonstrates time and time again that they are companions because of their love for each other (s2 solidified that). There is never any discussion in the novel about running away together or wanting each other more than they want to protect humanity. That's only a complex that emerges in the show (which is why the romance ends up hitting so much more). That ending just does not translate to Aziracrow as a romantic pairing.
