The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that weāre stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.
In the 1960ā²s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned fromĀ āhappyā or ācarefreeā to predominantly mean āhomosexualā and was an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasnāt cisgender or heterosexual. The community embraced the wordĀ āgayā as a mark of pride.
The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.
The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who feltĀ āgayā wasnāt inclusive of their identities.Ā
Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on menās issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Womenās Rights Movement which was happening at the same time.Ā This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.Ā
In the 1970ā²s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within womenās liberation movements. Betty Friedman, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a ālavender menaceā that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.
In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected.Ā Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.Ā
Approaching the 1990ā²s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasnāt inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the communityās fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.Ā
GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.Ā
Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using aĀ ā+ā to show LGBT arenāt the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.Ā
In the 2010ā²s, the process of reclaiming the wordĀ āqueerā that began in the 1980ā²s was largely accomplished. In the 2020ā²s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.Ā
your memory will carry on.

YU-GI-OH! (1996-2004) by Kazuki Takahashi

it was just announced that Kazuki Takahashi, author of the Yugioh manga and creator of that entire franchise, has passed away
this is a tragedy, but let it be said that Takahashi is an absolute legend. few people have shaped modern card game culture like he has. that alone would be incredible, but Yugioh itself as a series is incredible, too. this is devastating
If I could go back in time to one year ago today, I would not let myself respond back to your ālikeā on my dating profile. In any capacity. Just pretend like you never saw it and no oneās feelings wouldāve gotten hurt.
I was finally getting my shit together, and you just fucking wrecked me. Youāre the absolute worst.
I still canāt believe you had the fucking audacity to say something to my mom about being blocked. How old are you? 6? Donāt talk to your exās mom about the ex, unless the ex is dead or happily bonded to someone else.
If youāre the asshole that dumps me over text message, you forfeit all rights/privileges to my heart and mind.
God I am still so fucking angry at you.
Why do you get to be happy and have good things happen to you, when I am absolutely miserable after what youāve done?
Ensconced in a tower made from every mistake I have ever made
11 years later and Adeleās ā21ā hits just as hard if not harder.
God I love that woman

Why is it ok for you to have lied to me for weeks and then dump me over text message/written letter, but not okay for me to have a ānegativeā reaction to you ending things without every talking to me about how you were feeling? You get three weeks to process this and Iām supposed to be okay immediately?
I wanted to marry you. I had a Pinterest board and you said my eyes looked like sunflowers against a blue sky and you said youād never do something shitty like this to me LITERALLY the night before you ripped my heart to shreds. I felt safe with you. I vocalized things with you that I barely talked about with my therapist, let alone anyone else.
Can someone please just drop a large heavy object from a great height, directly onto my head?
Thereāre MLMs in literally every industry. Be careful when youāre buying things as to not accidentally support these predatory ābusinessesā.
To clarify, Iām referring to Multi-Level Marketing companies, AKA pyramid schemes. Not men who love men. They can also be found in literally every industry but theyāre mostly benign and not particularly likely to scam you.
Between the decision to mail people COVID tests after mocking the idea and the decision to extend the student loan deferment after signaling that it would end in February, two things should now be clear to everyone:
1. Challenging the Biden Administration's decisions, even through griping and creating negative discourse around it in social media, can be an effective agent of change.
2. Those who say that we shouldn't speak up because it helps the Republicans are the ones doing real harm.
it is always morally correct to harass politicians on twitter
if any minors are following me
always make sure to start forging parents' signatures on the first day of class. that way, your teachers won't know that you've been forging signatures for the rest of the year
My poor dad is dead now, but I feel he would like the widest audience possible to know that he used to routinely hand his teachers the following note. "In my opinion, David is not fit for Games today. Regards, David McDougall." My dad was not named after his father, whose name was, in fact, Victor. My dad's reasoning was he could never be accused of forging anything, because he hadn't. He'd just offered his opinion, in writing. He was never challenged, and never went to Games.
When I was a senior in high school, my dad left the state but I chose to stay and complete my education. I already had a car, a job, and dad co-signed on an apartment before he moved away. All of these things were totally doable for a high-schooler in 1981.
Because I was 18 and āparentlessā we filed paperwork with the school granting me permission to write my own excuse notes. Which, of course, I had a fuckin ball with:
- Ralf was late to class because he was surrounded by panthers
- Please excuse Ralf due to a sudden and fatal illness
- Ralf needs to leave school early because he has a phrenology appointment
...and so on. They couldnāt do anything about it, since there was no rule saying the notes had to be make any goddamn sense, they only had to exist. And be submitted by an āauthorized parent or guardianā which, in this case, was me.
One day I showed up late for school andĀ -- as per standard procedure -- stopped by the attendance office to check in. There was a new employee or temp or something manning the desk that day, and they demanded to see my excuse note.
So I grabbed paper & pen, scrawledĀ āPlease excuse Ralf for being late to schoolā, signed it, and handed it over. She was NOT amused.Ā
āNo honey, it needs to be from your mom,ā enunciated slowly like I was mentally damaged.
āIām authorized to write my own notes,ā I replied.
āNo youāre not. Sit over there.ā
And they made me wait for the Vice Principal to show up, which eventually he did. Who took one look at me and hooked a thumb in my direction.
āWhat did he do?ā
āForged an excuse note!ā
āHeās authorized to write his own notes.ā
I was now over two hours late, but the look of shock and hatred on the new ladyās face was worth it.Ā
I canāt possibly *follow* that story, but I feel compelled to share that my mom was proud I could forge her signature. Granted, I was homeschooled, and she was disabled and had arthritis pain, so it was a convenience š š
if i'm being 100% honest I don't think anyone who isn't disabled tries to get disability i legitimately do not believe it. "x amount of people make false claims" no, x amount of people who make claims are declared not disabled by the government, an institution that doesn't give a shit about disabled people and wants to find any reason to deny us assistance. if somebody goes through the effort of applying for ssi, which isn't a simple process, just for the CHANCE to get a max of $794 a month (but likely less.) and not even be able to save that money up. they are genuinely struggling with something. nobody would choose this if they had other reasonable options
plus the fact every once in a while the government will make you prove you are still disabled and if you aren't disabled enough they'll stop paying you
I applied for SSI, got denied twice, appealed both denials, and was finally approved for SSI by a judge.
Fun Fact! SSI will give you back pay for the time between your first denial and eventual approval (which for me was OVER A YEAR) and that seemed really cool until they told me they would be paying be in chunks.
$2,349 dollars every 6 months until they had paid the full back pay amount. Some of you might already see the problem here, but for those who donāt, let me explain.
SSI has this fun rule that if you ever have more the $2000 dollars in any account, you are immediately disqualified for SSI benefits.
And $2,349 dollars is, in fact, more than two grand.
So every six months for a year and a half, I would get my back payment and the same day get a call from SSI asking me why I have more than two thousand dollars in an account, when they literally gave me that money themselves.
TL:DR- SSI tried to kick me off disability benifits because I received those disability benefits.
Which indicates the true stupidity of that particular rule.

Anyone else has like... The inability to form habits?
Like normal people, they repeat something daily for a couple weeks and it sticks. They might miss a day here or there, but the overall habit is formed.
Me? I can push myself to do the same task daily for 8 months, forget one day, and it's gone. I realize 3 weeks later that i have not done it a single time since.
ADHD mood.
