The thing about Amalia is that her character concept is positively groundbreaking. She's the black girl of the group, yet she holds more narrative relevance than Evangelyne, her white, blonde bombshell of a best friend. Likewise, it's her who's the princess with strong magical abilities while Eva is "just" her archer bodyguard. Her hair has an unnatural hair colour as it is common among characters of colour, but at least hers has a narrative reason for being green beyond ✨fantasy setting✨—her people are supposed to resemble trees. As a princess, you'd expect her to be far-removed from the simple things in life, accustomed to opulence and refinement, and in a way, she is; but she also happens to be the princess of the Tree People of the World of Twelve—she actually holds much more down-to-earth values than most members of the upper crust by virtue of her connection to nature. Despite her being a refined princess, as girly as they come, it's her who loves a blood sport like Gobbowl instead of her friend Evangelyne, a peasant. Likewise, even though she started out as a sheltered princess, she was always shown to be a powerful fighter, more than capable of holding her own in combat, which in turn suggests she received the same kind of training as her older brother, the heir to the throne. She's shown having a special connection to Sadida, her people's god, more than once. The only non-demigod character to do so. It is her who's established to be the main character's first and only love almost from the get-go. Yugo never even underwent the typical arc where he had to grow out of an unrequited crush on Evangelyne or somebody else and realise Amalia is the one for him. Little by little, Amalia stopped being just another member of the main cast and essentially became the show's deuteragonist. She's so multifaceted and has so many opportunities for growth, and, again, she's the black girl of the group! A demographic that is so often overlooked, and Amalia gets to be all this!
