Somewhere Over the Rainbow

“Rain is better than twisters,” stated the girl. “I do like sunshine. Especially after a rain, because there’s a rainbow.”

“Twisters?” Victor echoes, voice concerned. “Ah, yes, I like rainbows too…haven’t seen any ‘in the wild’ in some time, but still. They’re not hard to imagine.”

The brunette nodded. “Yes, twisters. They’re quite common back in Kansas. Rainbows don’t come too often, sadly. I love looking at them as long as I possibly can. They’re special. Do you think so?”

“Hello, I’m Dorothy. Nice to meet you.” The brunette paused for a few moments then gave a nod. “That would be lovely, thank you.”

“How did you find us, Dorothy? Do you have a godly parent too?” Percy was excited to know about new people around and leaned against one of the trees.

Her mouth opened then closed again. Godly parent? Her mother was a witch, but she doubted that was considered godly. “I, well..I was following the yellow brick road when I arrived here,” Dorothy answered with a frown. “My mother is a witch. My father claims to be a wizard, but he isn’t.” Hope that wasn’t a bad answer. She has a bad habit of doing that, having bad answers. 

“Hello, I’m Dorothy. Nice to meet you.” The brunette paused for a few moments then gave a nod. “That would be lovely, thank you.”

He then pointed to the left, he could tell she was puzzled. “It’s pleasant down that way too.”

He then pointed in both directions. “Of course some people do go both ways.” He added.

The brunette looked back at the scarecrow in surprise. Either she was seeing things, or the scarecrow was alive. “I...I’m sorry but, did you just talk?”

"I hope not. I’m not fond of rain," Victor murmurs, following her gaze upward. "Or even just grey skies. I quite like sunshine above anything else."

He then pointed to the left, he could tell she was puzzled. "It's pleasant down that way too."

"Oh I’ve been fine. Just being the king of Oz and what not." He said keeping one arm around her and the other scratching the back of his head modestly.

"How's that for you?" She asked with interest, curiosity in her dark eyes. The brunette offered him a warm smile, still happy to see him. "I bet that's hard work."

The Scarecrow stood up on his pole, expecting nothing too out of the ordinary, until he noticed a brown haired girl walking down the road. He smiled slightly, he rarely saw anyone walk down here and when they did, they just took ignored him. He was glad someone came along, hopefully something different would happen today, as he decided to respond to her. “Pardon me, but that was is a very nice way.” He told her, pointing to the right.
