I wanna know anytime you encounter Broccoli. Any place.

I'm a blunt person, and I've found certain types of people impossible to communicate with, because they just refuse to just say what they mean. they always have to hide their meaning under twelve layers of implication for the sake of social convention and plausible deniability. intentions are hidden, insults are veiled. my struggles with navigating that kind of morass of social cues has made me perceive any kind of overt politeness as a threat. it signals that this person is manipulating me, they're not being sincere, they're trying to catch me in some sort of mistake and then punish me for falling for it. if they respected me, they'd just be straight with me. and 9/10 times, that's correct. because that's how "polite society" handles things. they reach out a hand, while arming the other. they only hurt people in the shadows. I respond to this by rejecting it. I bust through the bullshit, say what I mean, and invite them to do the same. it's the only solution I've found.

but there's types of autistic people who have the exact opposite response, who respond to the impossibility of communication in the exact opposite way: they play along. by covering every base they can, they think they can outsmart the system. fit into it. they learn every social cue they can, plug every hole, learn to navigate the swamp. it becomes normal for them. and by doing that, they make themselves impossible for me to handle. they wear the mask of the enemy. and I'm supposed to take it on faith that they don't wield their weapons too. meanwhile my bluntness is perceived as aggression, rather than the warm embrace it is.
