I really didn’t enjoy the ending for Death is the Only Ending for the Villainess. I was hoping for something like Kill the Villainess but it feels like so many manwha, esp rofan, are really terrified of making a “bad” ending, so they feel obligated to write in a happy ending. I really thought it be like that ending where they both go together in the real world and live separate from a world that’s tortured them the entire time they’ve been in it. The writing is good and it makes it feel okay, but it just feels like this massive lead up to them leaving the world together and becoming happy to being back where they were before. Penelope’s life is supposed to mirror itself in the real world and in the otome game she gets dropped into, and apart from Reynold, it just feels lackluster to know that eventually she’ll have to forgive everyone in the family and be cordial. It has the same issue I have with other rofans that will do the “she had an abusive family in her past/original life, and she does here too but she’s a better victim now because she’s fighting back and it magically makes them all feel remorse and become good this time”. Idk if we’ll address it, but the original Penelope never got any of this closure or love from her family. Up to the end, the original Pen loved all of them endlessly and just wanted to belong, and it took another person taking over their body and not caring at all about that family for them to want her in their lives. It would’ve been so much more satisfying with a Kill the Villainess style ending where it’s happy for Callisto and Penelope only
