But I haven’t seen any mention of this brand before, memes or no, so why has this suddenly shown up on Tumblr? Especially since it’s pretty low priced compared to a lot of designer names. Let me google! 

Ah. AOC bought a somewhat pricey, but practical, designer name bag, supporting a Black immigrant both directly and by providing publicity for his business. Suddenly, a post appears on Tumblr encouraging socialist and communist-leaning people to hate people carrying this particular designer name bag. 

She’s up for reelection in two months.

I don't own any "designer" stuff that retails for $300 or more (I don't think). But I do own a couple London Fog trench coats that each would have cost $100 ish, but I found at a thrift store for $10 each. I also own a couple Calvin Klein dresses that I got for $2-5 at the same thrift store. These aren't crazy expensive brands, but owning a couple of them that I can cycle through makes me look like I have a pretty expensive wardrobe.

There are a lot of "designer" clothes and accessories that are trash. Not that they are trashy (though there are some I personally think look fucking dumb), but that you are paying for the name, not the quality. Finding a designer you both like, and that supplies quality work is a rare find.

As far as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez owning a $300 designer bag... let's also not forget that as a woman, specifically a woman of color from a poor background, her appearance and style will be scrutinized more viciously than anyone else. How long do you think it would take for tabloids and Fox News to mock her for looking trashy if she wore anything less than perfect? AOC is in a lose/lose position. I respect her for choosing to support a black owned business. $300 bags are actually pretty cheap for designer, I know people that spend twice that on a smaller purse.

Also, AOC has talked publicly that for some of the photoshoots she's done she has rented designer outfits for the day, and that this is a common occurrence for female politicians that are asked to do press photoshoots.
