I also happen to specialise in gambling addiction (although I'm not practicing in that area right now), and all I could fucking think about was how these fucking apps were conditioning me in the same fucking way gambling apps do. To be constantly plugged in, consuming. To not even think about just picking it up and having a look. To feel bored when I wasn't watching them, to think about watching them when I wasn't watching them....

That shit is fucking evil.

I deleted it. I'm not exposing myself to that.

That shit will fry your dopamine/reward system so fucking bad you will never read a book or watching a movie again without it.

Love yourself and your potential enough to put that fucking shit away. Watch longer form things that require focus and engagement. Listen to podcasts and audiobooks. Read books. DO ANYTHING BUT CONSUME SHORT FORM CONTENT IN AN UNSTRUCTURED WAY.

If you MUST consume it (I'm sure people will be like 'but my classmates' or 'but my own channel'.... etc), do it in a siloed and structured way. 30 minutes between x time and x time on x day. Focus on it. Don't eat and do it. Watch each short form video to completion. Engage critically with the content. ANd never watch them first thing in the morning or last thing at night.

It’s not there for you (generic you) to make money off the efforts of the people who build and maintain the site for free! We aren’t getting paid for the work we do to give you a nice site to use, just like you aren’t getting paid for the work you do to create whatever art you share there. Because fandom is supposed to be a community where we share with each other, and therefore we all benefit.

I cannot express to you how FAST it has gone. I grew up in a world that does not exist now. We're starting on the path to reverse it, globally. You might not know how much solar has EXPLODED in the last decade or two. It's gone from a side thing, a weirdo novelty that was just Not Viable... to whole countries investing in infrastructure. but we have to keep fighting big oil and fascism everywhere we can in order to keep on this road to a new better less scorching burning earth.

Even with super small things - like today, I was on a colleague's calendar to schedule a meeting, and I accidentally saw some information that should not have been visible on their public calendar.

And instead of either freezing and not knowing what to do and so doing nothing, or trying to figure out how to talk to them individually (might solve the immediate problem but it's not necessarily a one-off problem, and also puts the ball on them individually to deal with solving it), or trying to figure out who else to talk to about it (probably disclosing the stuff to even more people)...I just grabbed my union rep! Told him what happened, he knew how ask the relevant questions without making me share more of the private info than I needed to, and he let me know he would pass it along to the appropriate people, and so it is not on either me or the individual colleague to solve!

obviously i think AI is an abomination. i have talked about this for a long time and will continue to do so, but today i was struck with something REALLY COOL that i do not think is discussed enough on the opposite end: the JOY and FULFILLMENT of being able to hire and work with human artists.

obviously not everyone is able to do this, but that is kind of my point. IT IS A GOAL TO BE ABLE TO GIVE, and AI is fundamentally ALL TAKE. when looking at my career i am just so honored to be like 'wow now this is big enough that i get to bring other creators along to join the fun'
