Y’all, I’m exhausted. Time and time again, in fandom spaces, it can feel like POCs end up doing extra emotional work just to keep things smooth. Why does it feel like we’re expected to be the “civilised” ones all the time? When I’m honest about disagreeing, especially as a POC, it feels like I have to soften what I’m saying, manage how the other person feels, or move away from my actual point just to make things easier for them. Instead of staying on the topic, the focus shifts to how they feel about being disagreed with. It’s genuinely tiring because I end up doing both the explaining and the emotional cushioning, even when I was just answering a simple question. Please, just… knock it off.
