#flashbackfriday! I remember when @plazaart_nashville was called Griffin back in the day. It has been Plaza since 1995. I didn’t get in the habit of calling it Plaza until about 2001 or so.

One of the ways I make sure my compositions work is to look at value, or the amount of light and dark in the piece. ⠀ 🔲🔳⠀ I have found an easy way to do this is to snap a photo of my #workinprogress on my phone, and switch it over to “mono.” (Swipe to see this in both color and black and white.)⠀ 📱⠀ I don’t think it’s a true grayscale image, but it gives me enough information to decide if the composition is working.⠀ 🎨⠀ In this case, I see that the canvas on the left needs a little more light in the top left quadrant to balance it out. The canvas on the right is pretty dark and needs more variety in the bottom left and upper right quadrants. ⠀ 🌅⠀ In my everyday life, I can look at things in a different way to get a handle on what I’m doing and ask myself if I’m going in the right direction. #throwbackthursday I’ve always loved this mural in downtown. It was painted a good while ago, long before Nashville became the happening place it is today. We have murals everywhere now.

Found my guestbook from my senior art show at @hardinguniversity. Wow, sure brings back memories! Also, that’s my personal logo from college. I had big, curly hair and a goatee. My favorite part is the pac-man eyes.
